Hey guys,
I was doing some minor updates to Tejanahawk and I had been using Mike's great tire treads. I decided to see if I could 'bump' the tire tread like on the P-51's. I am not very good working with bump files so I just copied the P-51's treads, did some realigning, and after a little alteration I got it to work.

Here is the result

I will save the tire treads layers (main/alpha, bump/alpha, spec/alpha layers) into PSD files. I don't have a file hosting account so if you want it just PM me and I'll send it to you.

Cheers
TJ

That is some pretty spiffy work there. I never spent long enough looking at the tires to really notice, but I did think today when I was parking the Mustang how great the tires and landing gear in general looked. Thanks for pointing it out.

Ha ha! I'm still messing around with the black part on the bottom. DC3 wings meet at the base, 377 wings are much higher up the fuselage. I have a plan, but got sick of staring at it. Painting a mustang now as therapy. I should just hire Paul to do it, he's kicked out 2 strats in the last week or so. He has no paint below the nose lights though, which is my problem area.

See TJ, if you keep painting, you'll turn into a rambling eccentric just like us 8)... Hope you like scotch.

Haha I am more of a beer guy now...enjoying a Becks right now after wrapping up the Denver Bell paint. 8) Back in my college days when my liver was college certified, I could pour just about anything down the hatch.

Yeah the only 377 I did was the fictional PSA scheme. Its a great airplane, just haven't gotten around to painting more for it. So many planes, so many paint project ideas...so little time

The tire PSDs are saved and zipped if anyone wants them. The tire tread layers can be duplicated to the P40b2_t texture and related bump/spec files. That way you can just add the tire treads in to any existing paint scheme with your paint program fairly easily. Holler if you want it. 8)

The tire tread textures are amazing.... Great work. Would you be willing to post them on Avsim.com any other flightsim file sharing site? These would be a great addition to anyone owning the P-40.

Thank you for your great work. Truly wonderful.

Just a comment here in case complete visual accuracy is a requirement for you.
I can't state this as a sure fact but in all my experience with tail wheel prop fighters I can't ever recall seeing a tail wheel tire with a diamond tread. I know on our Mustang we used both 10 ply and 14 ply tires at pressures around 85 psi. The treds available were what we called "channel" and "ribbed" and "zigzag", but I never saw a "diamond tread tail wheel on a prop fighter. Diamond WAS available as a main gear tire option however and many operators used that tread design.
Again, I never would say "never" :-) but if a diamond tread was available for tail wheels I never came across it in use by any of the operators we knew "way back when".
Hope this helps a bit. I understand you are making these files available and I just wanted to cross base with you on what "might" be a small accuracy point.

lol yeah not much I could do about the tailwheel. This P-40's texture mapping uses the main tire tread textures for the tailwheel.

Cheers

I know. You only get so many 1's and 0's to work with when doing these things. :-)))))))))
