"ghost" aircraft issue

Post by FireRescue85 »

Hey guys,

Was having issues with my FSX program so I decided to do a wipe and clean install. Everything went fine until I reinstalled the 377. When I opened FSX, I kept getting errors about multiple models having the same titles. After some investigation, I couldn't find any issue so I decided to uninstall the 377, delete all files, and do a clean reinstall. However, before I could do that, I noticed that I still have a few models of the 377 under my aircraft inventory, even though all models have been deleted! When I click them, it says "failed to load aircraft model" and goes back to the default aircraft.

My question is, these aircraft are somehow being stored in FSX, and that is causing the system to read a "duplicated" aircraft and give me the errors for multiple aircraft with the same name. I have deleted every file associated with the 377. Any ideas where these "ghost" aircraft are being stored? If I can delete them, and do a clean install of the 377 package, then I believe it will solve my duplicated aircraft problem.

Thanks in advace,
-Scott

Hey Lewis,

I did delete them from the simobjects folder, and uninstalled all products. I tried a fresh install of FSX as well, and I was still having the issue. So, I did a factory reset of my desktop hoping that would solve the issues.

However, now I am unable to even reinstall FSX as I keep getting an "Error 1722" code towards the end of installation. I tried googling it, but none of the suggestions seem to work. :?:

Are you running disc or steam edition? With steam editions active support that might be the route to go.

I’m running FSX off of the original disk. Debating going over to steam.

I also tried that link before, however the download was dead. I found the file off of fszone, yet that still didn’t solve the issue.

With regards to FSX-SE, it has been flawless for me since I installed it in January of 2016... which is something I could never say about any install of FSX I've had. Its an easy process, nothing tricky to install or tweak and if a file becomes corrupt (or you suspect that might have happened) a couple of clicks to get it to self-diagnose the faulty file and one more to re-install it...done.

I’ll probably end up getting it. It’s on sale for $7 today on steam for their Easter sale. Hopefully that fixes the issue.

((Update)) After resetting my C: drive to a factory condition and cleaning the drive, I bought FSX: Steam edition which I heard is much more stable than the boxed version, due to it having SP1, SP2, and Acceleration all built in. I installed FSX: Steam, and reinstalled my A2A aircraft, and everything is working perfectly. I want to thank everyone on this thread for their advice. I believe the issue was caused by corrupt FSX files and corrupt C: drive files, so the C: drive clean worked great. Hopefully having a more stable version of FSX reduces the number of CTD's and freezing issues that have plagued the game.

Thanks again guys!

Great to hear Scott and glad to hear you went the steam route it can make troubleshooting much easier using things like the steam inbuilt verify files commands.

I'm very excited to be able to fly again. Now I can start working on the trip I've been planning: a recreation of the US Navy Squadron VXE-6 during their initial "Deep Freeze" programs. Constellation "Phoenix 6" (which was really a C-121 super connie) was used to transport cargo and personnel from Christchurch New Zealand to McMurdo Station, Antarctica. But, that flight wouldn't be as much fun without the seasonal ferry trip from Quonset Point Air Station, Rhode Island to Christchurch NZ, while making refueling stops in CA, HI, and Fiji. Total trip is 10,907NM. I plan on posting pictures of the trip, along with a more detailed itinerary and background of what VXE-6 did during the 40's and 50's.
