Stratocruiser manual says I should have this option checked (page 13). New addon aircraft says that I should have it Unchecked. Can I have it unchecked or will that screw things up in Accusim?

Accu-Sim ignores this feature in FSX, but if you use it, it will reduce the realism.

I'm not understanding. Accu-sim both ignores it, but suffers from reduced realism depending on what it is set to?

I can't seem to understand what the programmer at Microsoft was trying to accomplish with the engine damage they added, but while Accu-Sim ignores the system, the system affects the power the engine puts out in an unrealistic way. While Accu-Sim ignores this system, it doesn't override what it does.

Scott.

Okay, if that is the case, it looks like there is a mistake in the manual on page 13 (Realism Settings). It show that box CHECKED, but it sounds like it should be UN checked. (right?)

Ah, OK, I seem to recall the need to specify / activate this inside the aircraft.cfg using the detonation_onset entry. We have no such entry so this internal MS damage system should not operate on our aircraft.

Scott.

I am confused because I'm looking in the Realism section of FSX & can only see "Aircraft Stress Causes Damage" not
"Engine Stress Damages Engines" as mentioned above. Am I missing something?

Yes, you are missing Acceleration :). That's okay though, you don't need it to fly the Stratocruiser, only FSX SP2, and this discussion only applies to those that have Acceleration installed.

Another question; Does having this box unchecked apply to all accusim aircraft, or just the 377 with COTS? So really what I'm trying to ask is, should I have this switched on when flying aircraft such as the the B17 or the Spitfire.

Regards,

James

During this discussion, I realized it should not make any difference if this box is checked or unchecked on Accu-Sim aircraft, since the microsoft damage is not set in the accusim aircraft aircraft.cfg files.

Yeah, that Engine Stress Damage option was added with the Acceleration Expansion Pack and was specifically geared towards the P-51 racer that came with it. That aircraft had an ADI that need to be used to keep the temps down under high engine load, otherwise the engine would fail. I'm not aware of any other aircraft that uses this function.
