Hi,

I just bought the B377 and the COTS. I've installed the SP1 and Hotfix for the B377 and the COTS update. When I'm flying, somewhere between 30 mins to an hour the game will freeze, with the sound continuing. I then have to CTRL ALT DEL to kill the program. I also had this same problem when I got the A2A Piper Cub. I believe I re-installed FSX to solve that problem. I just re-installed FSX this time, and the game froze in about 5 mins of being in the air.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 7 64 bit.
AMD RADEON HD 6450
Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @3.4 Ghz

FSX SP1 AND SP2 Installed.

I'm not sure I'll be much of a help, but, try lowering your realism sliders and turning off as many extras to the sim as possible. I once had the same problem, and it was because my computer just couldn't take the load. Good luck. :) See jay.

Hello,

Seejay, PC power wont be the issue here as specs posted point to a really nice i7 system.

blacksmith are you installing FSX to default location or moving it our of the program files location, for example to c:\FSX over program files. Also when installing the Boeing 377 etc are you right clicking the installer and selecting 'run as administrator'.

thanks,
Lewis

FSX is installed in the default location. I was not right-clicking and running as administrator. I completely un-installed the COTS, B-337, and then re-installed FSX. Will test it when I get off work to make sure it doesnt freeze. Then I'll try to re-install the B337 and COTS using the "Run as administrator" option.

I hate telling people to do this, but you might want to take a look at the latest FSUIPC from Pete Dawson. It fixes a ton of hangs in FSX. Some of these were induced with Windows 7 and the 64 bit operating system. Memory is generally the problem. I still suffer from crashes from time to time which are caused by video drivers. Using reasonable settings removes some of that issue.

EDIT: Where are you flying? What scenery?

+1 What Cody just posted about memory and drivers.

Depending on the type of freeze that you are getting, you may be able to wait it out and things will return to normal.

If it's one of those freezes where the entire screen goes pale, and you can sometimes still hear the sound, just leave it alone for a while. When this happens to me, I just walk away from the computer for a bit. I've seen it take maybe upwards of 10 or 15 minutes, but eventually when the system catches back up, it will snap out of it and continue flying like nothing ever happened.

I finally happened to complete the San Diego to Las Vegas flight I had been attempting. I downloaded the newest drivers for my video card. Still not convinced the problem has gone away as the flight was only about an hour.

New video card drivers installed....problem persists.
Downloaded FSUIPC....problem persists.

Just installed newest DirectX files. Looked into possible video card overheating....it maxes out a 74 C.

Any ideas on what to try next?

P.S. Flying in San Diego area with Ultimate Terrain X USA.

EDIT: Locked up while flying from SFO to SAN around 1 hour 30 mins.

How much memory does your system have?

Have you tried pulling back the graphical sliders, even with a nice i7 system, I wouldnt recommend running full pelt on FSX.

Also do you have any of those 'magic' cfg tweaks applied that sometimes do the rounds on FSX sites? Many of them can and will cause unforseen issues in the sim and they are very system specific.

thanks,
Lewis

I have no add-ons other than the Ultimate Terrain X, the A2A P47, and the A2A J3. I also have no tweaks with the cfg file. However, I might have figured out the problem. I just ran FSX as the Administrator and managed a 2 hour flight from Miramar to Reno with no problems. I never had to do that before, nor never knew that was an option. Hopefully this is the answer as I love the products that are put out by A2A simulations. I'll have to try a longer flight tomorrow to confirm.

Memory - 8GB

Hello Blacksmith,

yes you will want to run the installers as admin + run the shortcut itself as an admin to make sure you by-pass all windows security issues. Whilst its nice to have the windows security there it can causes system issues with programs such as sims/games. Its why anti-virus is always advised to be turned off when installing new programs to this day, dispite that most anti-virus will let programs install just dandy in this day and age.

I have had freeze ups, but rarely. Maybe 5 or 6 times in the last 4 years. Almost always from running a music program in the backround. FSX-A, I7, Win 7, 6GB Ram.
One of the well accepted cfg tweaks is: HIGHMEMFIX=1
Add this to the first section in the cfg, GRAPHICS.

I'm 99.9% sure I found out the culprit of the problem. I tried to fly from Nevada to Florida to figure out if the problem was because I hadn't been running FSX as the Administrator. 5 hours into the flight and 300 miles from my destination I got a freeze. I let it sit for 10 mins and nothing happened. I started the task manager and was able to close McAfee anti-virus software. FSX unfroze right then and didn't freeze again.
