September 2 MP Flight - the Mach Loop!

Post by Paughco »

Fellow Birdmen: Here is a link to info about the Mach Loop! http://oldafsarge.blogspot.com/2014/05/ ... -loop.html.

Here is the map:

This is a work in progress. Here is the LNV route for the Mach Loop:

We can leave from Caernarfon (EGCK), which is a non-towered field about 24 miles away from the Loop, fly over Llanbedr (EGOD), which is shown as a closed field in LNV, but it is only about 9 miles from the Loop then on to the Loop itself. I'm thinking that we can fly the loop in one airplane, then zip back to EGOD to change airplanes. The Mach Loop is a short run, but we can fly many laps! I'll probably run it at least once in my MJ C-47.

Right now I'm thinking that clear weather would be the best, unless we get some pretty stellar real weather for next Sunday. We should plan on meeting at our chosen departure airport (EGCK or EGOD) early enough to get our systems fully functional and our aircraft warmed up so we can take off at 1830 Zulu (1130 Pacific, 1430 Eastern, 1930 BST, 2030 CEST, and 0630 MONDAY, NZST). Hey! Looks like our flight will take place the day after Father's Day in New Zealand!

I just flew a test hop in my MJ C-47 and it's a fun ride, even in that old bird! I'd like to keep Caernarfon as our point of departure, but we can swap airplanes at the abandoned Llanbedr. The runways are in pretty good shape. The scenery looks pretty good in ORBX Vector and OpenLC Europe.

Looks great! Would it be possible to run this in my freeware TacPac equipped F-14 Tomcat? Or are we using A2A aircraft?

We've never turned anybody away for type of aircraft. Anybody who shoots down another participant, however, will be disqualified from the Gold Unlimited Race!I might try it in the F-22 or maybe an old school F-16 at some point.

Can the fields take jets runways wise? My mulviz t38, f86, f100 seem roaring fits then. But spitfire (its a2a mp after all) seems great too for this stint.

Tried it tonight with Mustang, Spitfire and T38.
The latter was quite challenging. All pure fun!
