2H & 4H can we play together?

Post by Kilstorm »

I havent flown the two hour MP session yet, cause I am at work during the day and hours of the sessions, but have come to realize that if the only real difference between the two is some pilots want a short flight than others, while can we do both on the same day, in the same session?

Why dont we come up with a schedule of routes for the next 4 weekends based on a 4 hour flight. Then those who want to only fly for 2 hours can use that info to coordinate their flight with it.

Say they take off at the same airport but divert early to an different landing zone, shortening their trip and keeping it at about two hours?

We already have two members wanting to host and run great MP sessions so why cant we see if we can work together and come up with a system that works for 3 types of pilots. 4H, 2H and fighter pilots.

By creating an advanced schedule of a route for the coming weekends and not a week by week schedule, we can then have a leader create a Flight Plan for the group they represent to best work for all three types.

If you guys want I can come up with a mock up for Feb 19th since I know where the 4H group will be taking off from. Will let David create the FP for the 4H pilots, Sayuuk create the FP for the 2H group and would need one more member create the Fighter pilot FP. Fighter planes being the spit and p-47.

The bombers roll will be what the MP flights have been so far while the fighter planes will take a different roll of advanced clearings and escorts at different phases of the flight. Giving each type of plane a better suited roll to what the planes were designed for.

Any thoughts?

I think that's going to create far too much chaos..

The way we are doing it now works, so I think we should stick to it..

Mate you and everyone else who reads this are welcome to both events, they're not competing against eachother. I fly both, even though I still haven't had enough time to do the entire long flights. I've loaded up after the others have started, and I've seen people come and go during both the short and long sessions. No problem what so ever.

The more the merrier, so if you'd like to fly the B17 but don't have so many hours, just join when you can or leave when you have to. You can simply hook onto the formation. As long as you join in! :)

Which is my point exactly. Why not do them during the same session. I understand there is no competition between the two but why not do both at the same starting time (since that's the case currently with both starting at 2000Zulu) on the same day and in the same session. Just have a FP for those who want to do a 2h one and those who want to do a 4H one.

I also noticed that of the few pilots who like to fly fighter planes they seem to like to break away from the group and do manuvers so instead of just doing a group flight the whole time for them, a few other objectives could be added to allow all 3 types to enjoy the same session.

I wouldnt go as far and speak for others as to what I think others will find to be chaos until at least we tried it out or heard from others who say they are not interested. I also dont see any difference from what was suggested here with join in late and/or leave eariler compared to just creating the same departure airport and have two arrival airports with one of them being closer and shorter of a flight.

Just to add my $0.02 here...

I prefer the two different days and sessions since I can fly my Spit on Friday and
then fly my B-17 on Saturday.

^ Good point.

Also, some can't make it on Fridays and others can't make it on Saturdays. I guess most people don't have the capacity to fly both events most of the time, so one would think that over time one of the events would "eat" the other in a capitalistic "dawinistic" way. But since both offer so very different things, I think they both might survive (or peter out) independant of eachother.

If I had to choose, I'd go for the longer lasting B-17 event, just so that the wider time span would allow more people to join or leave along the way. I could always load up in the air "near the host" in a Spit two hours before estimated landing time. That said, the 2 hour spitfire-event last week was heaps of fun!

Well we are here to have fun, the only problem I can see is it will be a lot of work for a few to marry the flight plans together or just drop in on the run :-)
The times will all ways be not right for a few on both days this can't be helped, as there are few of us @ +8 & +10 UTC makes for a good morning coffee or tea
