School needs a little help?

Post by Tretherras »

Dear all,

We are a local Comprehensive school in the UK who has just won a bid with Boeing and the Royal Aeronautical Society to build a simulator. Our application focused on building a Spitfire Simulator for a local Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre along with a company called Gateguards UK. We have recruited around 14 students into the project all under the age of 16.

The young team of engineers as chosen FSX-Steam with the A2A Spitfire software to use for the Simulator. Gateguards have kindly given over a fibre glass Spitfire Cockpit moulded direct from a real Spit. It is in kit form to a degree.

The students are organised into teams depending on interest and we have a team for software. Their job is to write software for the PLC Audrino to talk to the mechanism for moving the Cockpit. They have purchased the A2A Spitfire software and are looking to see if the software view of the cockpit can be split up into two screens? That is, have a screen on the inside of the flight sim replica to show instruments and on the outside have the environment of the flight sim, projected.

Can anyone help on this matter please? We would be really grateful.

Many thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums,

I don't think what you want to do is possible as the virtual cockpit is a part of the simulation. Are you trying to use your own programmed gauges and remove the on screen cockpit altogether as that might be a better option to aim for?

thanks,
Lewis

How about using 2 windows. The 'outside' view would be the "Window00" in the panel.cfg file, being displayed
on the external monitor.

The internal view would be a window of the instrument panel and lower cockpit.

Those additional window displays are the ones you can activate in the sim with the [ and ] keys.

Probably not an optimum arrangement but might suffice.

EDIT:

Here is an example

Outside view (Cockpit in the Views Menu)

One could also use custom views with CameraDefinition statements in the aircraft.cfg file.
