Bad day in the Mk I

I had just done my first engine rebuild after a steep learning curve and several flights where most things went well except for occasional engine overheats and was taking the new engine out for a run from Lydd to Shoreham.

In my defense 2 mph is very like a full stop after flying at 250 and performing aerobatics. I thought I had fully stopped and applied the parking brake only to nose over and total off my new engine!

Oh well, accidents happen, so new rebuild again and time for a run up. Only the bloody mechanic crewmen decided to say, "Sod this for a lark!" and pissed off to the pub just as I was running the engine up to 5lb thrust to test the prop feathering! I was just looking down at my checklist for a second when, BOOM! Another brand new engine totaled off!

I must have inadvertantly waved them off is all I will say in their defence.

Don't you just love the way she punishes the slightest inattention on the ground!
It's ages since I banged a prop but, as you've found, it always just that heartbeat away.

Just be thankful you didn't do this :

Oh, and don't worry too much about tipping up on landing, even Carolyn Grace did exactly that last year!

Took her out for a circuit last night under the blood moon over Dungeness and everything went perfectly. I am guessing the glass of wine helped my concentration.
