low flying

Post by alan CXA651 »

Hi.
After managing to get the b17 prop within inches of the runway , i thought i would see how low i could get the spit, not as easy as it sounds due to the alt being so low down , trying to keep an eye on that at same time looking fwd at the nose , i did not get as close as the b17 , except by accident while over water , tips of prop got bent by contact with the water , and aircraft had to be repaired , but proved my point that even with crash damage turned off , the accusim still detects contact with ground and you crash .

Hi.
Yes i did see that vid , but thanks for the referance anyway , the alt being low in the cockpit , makes low flying very hard , you should try it , its good fun , and virtual damage costs less to repair .

Yes, I do allot of low flying. Low bridges are my favourite. I see allot of low bridges in you videos and a carrier too. I think I'll give the place a visit. 8)

Yep, his under the bridge for the opening credits of `Piece of Cake` is masterful flying spoiled by a cameraman and director without a clue about wide angle shots, and its their poor skills that gave rise to the apocryphal story that Ray was only supposed to fly the Spit over the bridge, not under it.

Ray's wife wasn't all that happy with him taking the job as I recall. :-)))))))
We were invited to the funeral but unfortunately couldn't go. Our names do appear on the list of Ray's friends posted there.
Ray was a very special person. I don't remember anyone who really enjoyed flying the way he did. Ray and Ted Girdler were our "Brit buds" from the RedArrows.
I miss them both !
