There will never come a time when the Supermarine Spitfire goes out of style. This is just after leaving Compton Abbas.
Good grief, she's pretty...
Re: Good grief, she's pretty...
A beautiful aircraft that saved this nation from tyranny and was described by the young pilots that flew her as they "felt part of her"
You cannot speak more highly of her and her ignored hero the hurricane.
Well I will stop waxing sentimental but both aircraft were saviours of this country when all the others had been conquered.
Cheers Chris

The old girl is beautiful from any angle, isn't she?
I don't go outside often enough to look at her. Thanks for the great screenshot Chunk!

I am a Yank! And I think the Spit is one of the most beautiful birds out there!! I happen to be more fond of the earlier models than the latter so I am happy about the MKI and MKII types.

The early marques are quite distinctive and have a very balanced look. After the V they always looked like what they, largely, were : An aircraft with an engine grafted onto the front.

Re: Good grief, she's pretty...
very nice shots guys and yes the Spitfire has the beauty contest won hands down IMO for fighters. Though I am partial to the odd overshadowed ugly sister, such as the P-51B's in olive drab and the 109F is in my view a close second behind the Spitfire, the smooth clean lines of the 109F is just so damn fine!

Re: Good grief, she's pretty...
Lewis, I am an odd duck most times because as pretty as the P-51 is I only like the b/c model. Just like I only really care for the Razorback version of the P-47. More the early war variants. I definitely understand why the changes were made, but the earlier are much prettier to me including the Spit. Sad to say though the Stearman will always have my heart as the one aircraft I want to own.Lewis - A2A wrote:very nice shots guys and yes the Spitfire has the beauty contest won hands down IMO for fighters. The 109's I know just enough about to realize which silhouette to shoot down but the Emils through the Gustavs are all might nice. The FW-190 though (any radial variant) I alway thought had better lines than the 109.
Strange how we all have our favorites, just like with women! Lol

The 109F is the one with no sticky out parts and rounded wings, its before she got fat with the G and after all the smoothing of the airframe post E. Looks great with the trop filter in MTO colours.

What Dover Scenery is that ? ORBX England's Dover looks terrible so it can't be that.

Nice shot, thanks for sharing!
The Spitfire has a lot of harmony and a touch of grace in its forms and proportions.
Besides, she wouldn't try to kill you, unlike the Bf109 (OK, perhaps she'll just try to cook you a little bit, now and then)

Styg, that is FSX scenery. No add ons for the UK but Ian P's individual airfields.
