Question on flaps on Spitfire

Post by davegee1 »

I am certain the airplane is modeled correctly, but just wanted to understand it a bit better.

1) Are there only two positions for the flaps, full up, and full down? Also, I haven't seen flaps deploy to almost straight down (90 degrees). I'm assuming this is accurate?

2) The Mk1s have a nice flap gauge that tells you flap position. On the Mk 2a and 2b, I don't see a gauge to tell you what the flaps are actually doing. I mean, you can feel it, but I haven't found an actual flap gauge to confirm the flap position. Would be nice, especially if you have an asymmetric flap condition in flight and cannot see them from the cockpit. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks davegee1

you can see the flap indicator from the cockpit. on each side there is a little cover that raises when the flaps are down, like the red pins closer to the leading edge indicating the gear. have a look here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ccd64jdm1f5ww ... p.png?dl=0

Indeed, there are only two flap positions. Gotta keep it simple, right? ;)
