Checklist MkI, Merlin III (plaque carded)

Post by erikx »

Subsequent to the B-17 and P-51 I made up a checklist for the Spitfire MkI, Merlin III engine.

After downloading the pdf: http://a2asimulations.com/public/downlo ... 0black.pdf you can print it and make your plaque carded version out of it.

For everyone that is interested, I found a real world “Official A.A.F. Pilot's Checklist”, used in the cockpit of the P-51D during WWII!

See topic: http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtop ... 93&t=33669

Has someone seen somewhere versions of the other A2A aircraft/fighters (i.e. the Spitfire)?

Regards, erikx

For people that are interested in the real world usage of the checklist in WWII airforces, at UC San Diego there is some interesting research going on of Roger Bohn.

Most recently he published a paper: NOT FLYING BY THE BOOK: SLOW ADOPTION OF CHECKLISTS AND PROCEDURES IN WW2 AVIATION.

Fantastic erikx
I fear though the PDF links are no longer working. (Same for the B17, the link to the forum works but not the PDF I fear)

Would be great to get the updated :) Thank you for all your work on these checklists.

I found an original copy of the Spit checklist here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/nativ ... review%3D1

I reversed the colors to be black on white for printing and saved it here (all credit to original author, all I did was reverse the colors for printing, and will take it down if the author requests.): http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~stefan/spitchecklist.pdf Edit 2: This seems to want to print out white on black for some reason that I am not yet clear on! Don't trust it to print how the preview shows. Obviously there's something weird internally with my updated pdf! Good thing toner is cheap :\

-stefan

Edit: I guess I messed with the font too (ArialNarrow -> Helvetica -Narrow) because I didn't have Arial on the system I did the conversion. Conversion technique was:

Code: Select all

gs -o spitchecklist.pdf -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -c "{1 exch sub} settransfer" -f Spitfire\
Mk.IIa\,b\ Checklist\ A2A\ black.pdf
For anyone interested.
