I have had a couple of guys make comments to me privately when I have done or suggested things that seem to go against some of my advice.
Resisting the temptation to tell them to *&^*& off I would rather point anyone to this brilliant statement in the manual.
"Actions have consequences"
I am a great believer in two old truisms.
1. Rules are for the observance of fools and the guidance of wise men.
2. You have to know what the rules are before you can know when it is safe to break them.
There are times when you may find that you can handle the Spitfire a little differently to solve a problem. If you are careful, clever, lucky you may get a good result..even better than by following SOP. You may do it one day and succeed, the next time you try it you become a Lawn Dart.
So, when you are comfortable with this aeroplane, feel free to experiment a bit but be prepared for the consequences.
And always remember what is probably the greatest Aviation Truism:
"A superior pilot excercises his superior judgement to avoid ever having to excercise his superior skills."
Happy flying
