I see whenever I taxi on grass strip with the spitfire, the effects for the dust also throw a lot of clumps of mud/rocks/ whatever it is. It is similar to the default dust effect though I see the effect section you use your own effect.
I changed my default effect from this
to this
by deleting the clumps section from the effect file.
In the mean time I have added my adjusted default "dirt" effect in the place of your effect file and it looks better to only see the dust..
It would be nice to see the dust and not that huge pieces of clumps of dirt being thown around. I am sure there are others that would also not like to see the clumps of dirts. anyway that we can get an adjusted "dirt" effect file without the clumps for others that do not know how to remove the clumps from the effects folder.
Sorry for not posting pics of the spitfire with the two effect but I already had these files from long ago.
it is just to illustrate the difference.

If you're on a dirt or grass strip, wouldn't you expect to see clumps?

Re: Dirt dust effect
Have you watched videos of real spitfires on a grass strip and saw clumps of dirt flying around..? I have not yet seen anything like that in RL videos neither at airshows I attended of planes taxing on grass (unfortuanately it was not spitfires, but I think it is the same thing end of day.)Bruce Hamilton wrote:If you're on a dirt or grass strip, wouldn't you expect to see clumps?

You made your point, but I didn't see any dust flying around either.bliksimpie wrote:Have you watched videos of real spitfires on a grass strip and saw clumps of dirt flying around..?

Re: Dirt dust effect
Wouldn't clumps be more likely to be raised by wheels that were under power, car or truck wheels digging into the loose dry surface?
Wouldn't, if anything, just dust rise when rolling, unpowered wheels like those of, say, a Spitfire's, disturbed the dry ground?
I'm no expert on this, just thinking about it.
Bliksimpie, I'd love see the code changes you came up with.

Re: Dirt dust effect
I can honestly say after working at an airport with two grass runways, I've never seen airplanes throw up clumps of dirt or grass or dust.

Thanks.
Re: Dirt dust effect
There is definitely some dust visible in this spectacular video that shows 12 Spitfires at the Duxford airshow.

That is a great clip. I showed it to my Dad who lived right by RAF Kenley during the war (he was 7 during the BoB). He said it brought back alot of memories and promptly ordered the DVD advertised at the end. Thanks for the link!Jigsaw wrote:There is definitely some dust visible in this spectacular video that shows 12 Spitfires at the Duxford airshow.

Indeed it was 16 and it was amazing to behold on the day, esp with the nice weather. Ended up sat on the roof of my car as we got there so early our car park was right next to tankwarfere hall.
