Cheers mate.

The WW2 site guys are leaning towards "private purchase" , but the jury is still not quite in.

As it is at the moment:

Thanks Lewis :)

And Philip...it's YOUR fault...I have just ordered from Sefton Clothing Co a Type C (late pattern) Helmet and a Type E* mask, all full working order, to go with the sim...$1100. I'll also be getting an H type mask to use for real flying in the Tiger Moth.

So, cheers...

How far off until you are running the sim?

Lewis,

I was SO close. I am working crazy hours now but stole an hour to wire the controls Sunday afternoon. The pots in the sidewinder the guy used are spiking and giving erratic behaviour...the throttle pot only records 1/4 of its full travel. So I have to take it back up to him (because no other pots will fit it will need to be reengineered for bigger pots in the throttle and column. the soonest I can get it back to him is 29th May, he *should* be able to do it in a day, hopefully.

At the moment th post from UK is ltting me down as well. Last order..4 days..this one, 14 days so far and no sign.

If I wasn't working all the time I would be fuming but fact is I can't move forward at the moment anyway. BUT once i get the controls fixed and the order of stuff arrives, I *should* be able to have her flying in a weekend.

cheers

Darryl

Thanks Lewis,

Yes, I'm hanging out for it myself. I can hopefully steal some time to do some wiring this weekend at night.

Today the fusebox and switches arrived for the Camera Selector. They are the perfect size. IF, big IF I get some time this weekend away from the office I will start the selector.

The controls go back for "re engineering" on Saturday.

A little progress (by my mate, not me):

A real De-icing pump, these come in several slightly different models:

And the mock up made by Gwyn:

Ever the comedian......

But at least it solves my "where the %*&*@ did I put my pencil" problems.

I've decided that after 31 x 12 or 14 hour days straight, and another 14 at least to come, I am going to take Sunday off and
do some more building.

Well, I collected the controls after their alterations yesterday but had to work today in the end. I've managed tonight to test the pots and they are all working fine now. So a solid day, when I can find one, should have it all back together and ready for the monitor tray to be built.
I've made a start on the Landing Lamp Unit and will put up pictures during the week.

Can't wait to see some pictures, if only these could be mass-produced as I'd buy a pit like this :D

Thanks Philip. I can't mass produce them but I can help out with any info if you want to build one. I'm sure that you could get the controls made here. The only limit on what can be done is cost. I could have built the sim a lot cheaper but I also could have spent a lot more! I would estimate that a minimum budget to get one running (without active intstruments, just lasered dummies) would be in the order of US$7000 - $8000...wood,screws, fittings, controls, etc...the major part being the controls. If you didn't go for "detail" but just the basic controls in a tub and printed labels, hand painting etc, that would cover it easily.

Final budget for mine has been revised, yet again, as I start detailing things...at $70 per fuse box etc it doesn't take long to mount up! But those things could also be built and painted in wood or plastic for $1.00. It is all a question of "scale".

If you have the money it's worth it IMO.
If I ever get rich in life, I'd buy a full-size spit and build the cockpit in the plane the itself! I can dream! ;)
