A couple of late night sessions to save my sanity:

I used a red light for Port Camera, Blue for Oblique and green for Starboard. Not sure what colour they really were, probably all red? Anyway, I'm happy enough. I also chose grey to match the Type 35 controller...I guess that would have been the colour.

I'm not at all happy with the label but when I get a minute I will impose on Chris's good nature yet again. I will also need him to do a couple of labels for the Lamp unit.

Also a bit of a start on the Landing Lamp Unit.

The handle is spring tensioned and feels very like operating a bowden cable..it is not/won't be linked to any electronincs, just there for the look of it. Gwyn turned an endcap for me. I made the rest. (except of course the flap lever,)

More later, late now.

It is usually put to me as being "obsessive and stuborn as a mule"...I like your description better :D

Hopefully only crazy hours for one more weekend and then the week and THEN I should get some real time on the 'pit to finish things off.

A few moments tonight before bed...

A very much improved label and some minor alignment "issues" fixed.

Image

Image

I am fairly sure from the very indistinct photo in the PR Pilot's Notes that this is how the label is laid out. It is blurry in the notes and can't be read but the white smudges fit with how the label now looks.

Still not perfect but I'll live with it.

I also have done the data plate for the front...absolutely no idea how this should look but I've just copied details from Camera and Radio data tags I've seen and put on a nice A.M Crown.

Image

It is printed paper but shines like a silver tag with the gloss varnish over it. I am still waiting for t to dry (the second one after my impatience ruined the first ) and then it will go in above the Toggle Switch on the front. I am guessing that is what the "box" is above that switch on Andy's copy of the A.M drawing. drawing.

more soon.....

At last a bit of progress. 3 full days work I had set aside turned into two half days..but never mind.

Before:

The completed Landing Lamp Unit:

I am half way through a respray of the interior to this new green colour..still not quite right but as close as I am going to try to get.

I spent a lot of extra time on the LLU because of the great pictures I had access to. Thanks mate!!

It is a nice looking unit and it looks great mounted under the panel. I just have to do a legend for it and finish the painting in the area and it can go back in. Pictures then!

The radiator shutter lever has been ditched and I have ordered another which will look spot on and work of a pot for controlling radiator shutters (or cowl flaps in GA aircraft Thunderbolt etc.)

More soon hopefully.

Thanks mate!

The LLU and CSU are two I never thought I would get good info for but there you go.... I'm happy to have been able to get them made. Hopefully soon I will have the time to get the monitor tray done and get her flying.

Hi Killratio, firstly awesome work! That cockpit looks great! I'm a massive fan of the spit myslef as well. I was just wondering however, how have you got the visuals set up? what type of monitors are you using and where will they be placed?

Keep posting, it looks great!!!

Lewis,

Yep, years of hard work and no kids mean that I get the odd toy! The Spitfire is queen of them all though.

I looked recently at buying a 90% replica but they just don't quite look right (same width but shorter and makes them look "stubby") It had also had a landing bingle and as I would primarily want it for aerobatics, I don't think I would have ever quite trusted it fully.

The sim will have to do me.

To get photos of the Landing Lamp Unit and CSU was a REAL piece of luck too...

Last night I carved the new throttle handle and engraved it with the "THROTTLE" legend as per the early Marques.

More pictures soon.

About 200-250 depending on options fitted. The one I saw they want 150 for.

150,000? That's not half bad if it can fly. Are we talking £'s or dollars? ;)
