Sorry Lewis, this one was 185 quid with a non functioning night shield (it is just the bit that shows when "up" that is on this one). I also have to make a back bracket to hold the lights. To get a fully functioning (but still non airworthy) unit was 600 quid, which is over A$1000...which as much as I wanted it, just wasn't cost effective for an extra feature that I would never use. For the same reason. I will eventually machine an early type Starter Button out of a 5CW/1091 I have ($100) as the proper 5CW/857 and cover is around $850 Aus!!Lewis - A2A wrote:lol I was about to say exactly the same I love the pull down. I will have a look at the pull down when the unit arrives and see what, if anything, might be achieved.
No progress, unfortunately but a little late night research has been fruitful. When I can restart the project there will be some huge improvements.

Not having been able to do any work on the Cockpit, I have had content myself with acquisitions, sales and planning.
Not a lot to show. the Undercarriage Indicator arrived and after a few quality control issues, it all got sorted out and I have a beautiful unit. Unfortunately the blind part is a solid carving
so there is no way to jerry rig it to make it functional. A shame but I don't fly at night anyway.
I've also probably sold all of my Mk IX stuff to a guy, in bulk, for a price that will pay for most of the conversion but which is still an extremely big discount on what it would cost him to acquire it all separately.
The new instrument panel is also in the planning stage. Chris, my long suffering mate, has now bought a laser which will cut up to 3mm Stainless Steel plate. 1mm SS is what the new panel will be made from, lighter than and stronger than the 3mm Ali one I have at present.
The tools and first shipment of rivets for the Aluminium rebuild also arrived today.
The really fancy bits... the elegant U Chanel, compound curved, cockpit coaming, the upper cockpit braces and the door braces, will be made by a mate of mine in Queensland. He is also going to make me a Seat.. the real deal.
Now I just need for the hassles of life to go away and I may be able to do some building.
My Ground Crew are ready and waiting for work to commence :

Well, after everything lately and, frankly, seriously considering moving to PNG to live in the mountains.., today at last a very nice early Christmas present. I was contacted again, via another site, by the people who made my replica Undercarriage Indicator. They were so thrilled to see their indicator go into my cockpit, that they have asked me to return it, to be replaced by a fully working one! They want to contribute to the project by donating a unit!
This is just a wildly generous offer...the original cost me 185 pounds, the replacement is 600 pounds!!!
So, for your viewing pleasure... (particularly you Lewis!):

In brighter (???) news, I spent 20 hours of Thursday night/Friday demolishing the Spitfire. The end of an era. All the sold parts have been shipped off and for the first time in years Moody Blue is completely unserviceable. Looking at the bare walls gives some idea of what the finished early Spitfire I will look like...no Remote Contactor or destruction gear, no Deice pump, cock or piping, no oxygen valve (a valve on the bottle behind the seat only), the panel stripped of switches and only a total of 4 to go back in plus the three way rotary for charge regulation. But the hand pump for the undercarriage will look all the more spectacular for it....
I have plan for the canopy latch coming and will be putting a full canopy on the new build, minus front windscreen. The new build will be constructed all the way back to the just in front of the radio mast.
Finally, the Oxygen Regulator will become fully functional with tap and gauges, the proper rectangular gauges for oil pressure and fuel pressure will be implemented with gears and the rest of the panel will match a proper Spitfire I config much more closely.
All 2000 rivets have arrived and on Tuesday I go to the sheet metal supplier to get 5 square meters of 1mm aluminium.
So now I just need the personal "weather" to break and I can seriously start to build the "ultimate" version of the sim!!
