Flying Dynamics

Post by netwalker »

OK, Starting to get my feet wet with the "simple" J3...

Can I assume that this plane likes to crap/turn/slew to the left slightly if left to its own devices?

Cheers...

Yes, all single engine props will exhibit this behavior especially at lower speeds and high power settings. Designers rig the aircraft to balance the aircraft when at cruise power and speed in an ideal atmosphere. In reality, unless you have an autopilot, there is always some minimal amount of work to do to remain straight and level.

FYI - With the realistic behavior of these aircraft models, it is very helpful to reduce null zones to zero and maximize sensitivity of controls to allow for a light touch on the controls as is required IRL to counteract these forces in most performance regimes. Thanks. I did actually set the sliders last night but given I am using FSUICP as I run Windows 8.1. Not sure it will do much but I am learning and could be wrong.
