HAT feet in relation with landing pattern profile?

What does the abreviation "HAT" stand for in relation to a landing pattern? I guess height in feet above what?

These definitions can be found in the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) - download on the FAA's Air Traffic Plans and Publications page.

HEIGHT ABOVE TOUCHDOWN− The height of
the Decision Height or Minimum Descent Altitude
above the highest runway elevation in the touchdown
zone (first 3,000 feet of the runway). HAT is
published on instrument approach charts in conjunction
with all straight-in minimums.

TOUCHDOWN ZONE ELEVATION− The highest
elevation in the first 3,000 feet of the landing surface.
TDZE is indicated on the instrument approach
procedure chart when straight-in landing minimums
are authorized.

Not long ago I think it was that Oracle... now Height Above Threshold is HATh.

At least with Height Above Touchdown you know if should never be a negative number*. HATr (Height Above Trees) can be a bit more tricky. And in FSX some of those trees can grow real tall!

*Actually, come to think of it I'm sure there are some technical/momentary exceptions to that. A landing on the numbers at Lukla or Courchevel for instance...

You see all these high falutin names like height above touchdown could easily be altitude rather than height and ground rather than touchdown,which would give you AAG and if you got it wrong could easily be AAGH.
