In the Cub, with no turn coordinator, how does one knows how much rudder to push since there is also no "seat-of-the-pant" feeling?

Avio,

It's in the book, but the short version is that the whiskey compass is a good replacement.

Look at your nose on the horizon as you bank. With no rudder, you will experienced adverse yaw (nose moves to the opposite direction due to aileron drag). I you carefully apply rudder in coordination with your stick, your nose move smoothly into the turn.

While in the turn, some cub pilots actually use the bank of the compass to indicate how coordinated the turn is. An uncoordinated turn will cause the compass to bank with the turn. If you coordinate it, the compass will be more level. We have built these physics into the compass.

Scott.

Thanks, Scott. Will try these out when I get to fly again later.

Now which one should I fly in next -- P47 or B377 or Cub since I have them all ? Sigh ... so many planes, so little time.

I moved this topic here as this applies to all the planes here including our Battle of Britain II crowd.

Scott.

In 1944 Luftwaffe Pilot school our aerobatic maneuvers included a "Steered" (controlled) roll and power roll was not accepted.
Left roll:
The stick goes left the right rudder goes forward lokking at the horizon at all times not to dip the nose. (left)
Stick goes left and back a bit forward and rudder normal to keep the nose on the horizon. (upside down)
Stick goes left and left rudder goes forward to keep the nose on the horizon. (right)
Stick goes left and a bit back and rudder to normal with nose on the horizom. (back normal)

I still do it just for fun on the computer.
