Cub tire chirp?
Cub tire chirp?
Anyway to get a tire chirp on touchdown on pavement? It's a more satisfying sound than the thump... Love the cub... my favorite plane to fly by far.
Re: Cub tire chirp?
I have never ever heard a cub's tires chirp IRL. There is just so little airspeed at touchdown and the tires are so small and light that one would probably have to be using the brakes to get any sound.
I think it would be unrealistic to add this effect, but if anyone has heard this, please correct me if I am wrong.
Even on a Super Cub with oversize tires, I have never been able to get a chirp on touchdown on asphalt unless I came in with a little sideload.
The Stearman definitely makes a very satisfying chirp on touchdown. The tires are huge heavy and relatively narrow, so that may have something to do with it. Never flown a T-6, but I've heard them and Trojans chirp away. Must be something with the weight and tire shape and intertia.

Re: Cub tire chirp?
I don't have any time in the Cub in RL but in Super Cubs. And I have to agree with Oracle. If you don't have any side load on touchdown the tires don't chirp. If you have a side load then they do.
So I think the A2A Cubs sounds are correct.
Happy flying

In a cub with the door open is one of the only light planes I feel like I ever heard the chirp from the cabin. But with accufeel... All my planes chirp in the cockpit!

I stand corrected, I'm here at 12N watching a J-3 do landings on asphalt, and it chirps quite loudly on touchdown.

Hah - 12N - I'm over at KMSV - been meaning to hit 12N...
As far as the chirp goes - what I find really satisfying is when I get the long extended chirps because I am transferring weight ever so gently onto the mains... I don't get them often but when I do - you know it was a greased landing...

Re: Cub tire chirp?
The first and 3rd linked videos came in extremely hot, the 3rd one in particular looked like it was around 65-70 indicated, although it's a bit hard to tell. The second one it's hard to say, he may have been side loaded, but maybe not.
I personally have no idea, having never been in one during a landing or even seen one land on anything that wasn't grass, but I'd defer to the people who have actual flight experience.

Re: Cub tire chirp?
65-70 in a cub is about cruising speed. Climbs are done at 50-55 and touchdown is probably around 25-30.
As I said in my subsequent reply, I heard a cub touching down the other day and chirping away. My memory was completely incorrect.

Impossible, nobody on the internet ever admits when they were mistaken!
