I installed the Ultima Thule FSX scenery (in FSX).
I have SP2, UT USA/Canada, GEX USA/Canada installed.
I noticed that the dirt textures are instead grass/foilage at Ultima Thule. Makes it harder to tell where the strip is.
I am asking if anyone here has any idea how to correct this if you feel like responding.
Thanks.

Hmm, I don't know anything about an Ultima Thule scenery (and a quick google search didn't provide much help either), but you could probably use a utility like Airport Design Editor to edit the runway type: go to http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/index.html to find out more.

Again, I don't know anything about the scenery, and I don't even know all that much about the ADE utility  .. I only know of it's existence, but I would think it might be of help in this case?

Cheers,
UitS

Hey there.
Thanks for responding. I have thought a while on this situation. I am thinking it is probably an scenery elevation problem.
I know nothing about designing/editing scenery either. Thanks for the link,I appreciate your effort.
Ultima Thule is a lodge in Alaska. It is located..well..in the middle of somewhere and nowhere..lol.
Seriously it is east of McCarthy. The area is spectacular, yes even in the sim.

Hi there lawdawg; It's just a thought sometimes I have found that scenery developers make their scenery in full or at least 75 to 90% scenery sliders to the right. I'm also a fan of Paul Claus Ultima Thule Lodge. I visit there often both on tundra and floats in summer. Ultima Thule is set in the Wrangle Mts. It would be great to visit in the real world some day. Hope this helps and your system can handle the settings, try it and see. Take care

Bushman

Hey Bushman.
I am an Alaskan lifer.
I have never had the honor to meet Paul. I have met some real neat people over the years who fly all over up here. Been able to fly with them to/around some remote areas.
Worked at Airglas, who make the Landes skis for a little while. Met some neat folks there.
Paul is a living legend. I would like to meet Loni (cubdriver 749er). I have that vid and watch it alot. What a loss regarding Shaun last year.
Thanks for responding. I am not sure of the scenery deal. I have the sliders pretty far right as it is...lol
Tongass X does have some realistic scenery for up here and can make some good gravel bar and mountaintop landings, glacier too. I am looking forward to the soon coming ORBX PNW scenery. Will tie in nice w/Tongass.

Back at you lawdawg: Well bud you are living in the part of the world I am looking forward into seeing and breathing the mountain air in the near future. It was shocking to hear about Shaun even here in Ontario Canada. He certainly is missed both the real world and virtual Alaskan pilots who love bush flying and Shaun died doing what he loved "flying". As for watching videos I've worn out my mouse finger some evenings watching youtube  It's different flying here in northeastern Ontario. At CYCN it's 866' above sea level. So flying at 1100' is no problem 8) most of the time you don't even use carb heat to descend a little elevator trim and flare and you're down   I do get the same landing textures as yourself by the way. Sliders to max. I have checked Gotbush downloads for a update patch, no go. In the videos of UTL it is a dirt runway and it is rough. Yet the turbo otter stol capabilities he gets her down. You take care for now. Bushman (Rob)

Hey Bushman,
Cool, a fellow northerner. My dad was born and raised in Winnipeg.
You know what? If this scenery is Gotbush created...I know what the problem is. I have FSX SP2, which is a no-no for their scenery.
I bet that is it. Thanks for checking and verifying on your system.
As for Alaska...I love it here. Some of Robert Service's poems describe in a deep way how I feel about this land. It runs very deep in my soul.
I have almost died here in numerous ways. Being an LEO for a decade sure didn't help in that regard..LOL
Many close calls in the bush, where I lived for many years. I hope you get to realize your desire to come here. The Wrangell-St. Elias area is one of my favorite places up here. Simply breathtaking. I have a few..(haha) places that are favorites too.
Blessings to you Bushman.

I'm familiar with Shaun. I used to follow his blog. Tragic the way he died, but goes to show that no one, no matter how good of a pilot, is invincible....and always watch your airspeed. Classic "moose stall" incident. Down here in Texas, many Cub pilots died the same way--flying 360 slowly around cattle.

Ya! Don't you know it, lost a good friend in 79 to a "moose stall" in a beaver with two hunters on board doing exactly that circling a lake after spotting a moose and stalling about 500' not enough to recover and put the aircraft into the trees. watch your airspeed always. :( Well enough said. I have two more years and this soul is retiring and at least 6 mths. in the Yukon and Alaska. A life long dream. Flying a super cub through the mountains along rivers and at this time of the year with the fall colors on. Even in the virtual Alaska flying along the river and stop in to see Paul and his family at Ultima Thule. Bush Flying Living a Dream.
Take care Guys
Bushman (Rob) :D

Sounds like you're living the dream up there!

I'm 29. Just bought my first J3 Cub yesterday morning. Hope to have lots of fun with it.

Hey fellas,
I just got home from work....sick no less.
It is getting butt cold in a hurry. Colder out than on average. Snow is low on the mountains.
Skunker, congratulations. Know you will have a blast in that piece of history.
The moose stall, yeah that bites in so many ways. Rest their souls.
I am going to bed and hope to kick this whatever it is in the rear.
Blessings to all.
