Sadly, on my system at least, I can confirm that the cub is a framerate hog. There are models that are, and models that aren't. It does not seem to relate to level of detail or sophistication.

E.g.

Good framerates:
o Realair Scout Package, Spitfire.
o Anything Carenado
o Lotus Albatross

Poor framerates:
o Cub
o Just Flight Tigermoth
o Digital aviation Katana

I have most of the listed add-ons, and for my case I dare say the Cub certainly belongs to the "Good framerates" category, on par with those listed above.

Avio

No wonder the RealAir stuff and Carenado perform better. Their models are much less complex. The model of the Cub is roughly 10 times as large as the one from the Scout. And don't even look at the texture load. That detail in the Cub doesn't come for free. The Carenado planes are equally simple with flat panels in VC and much simpler models in general. That the L-39 is so good is surprising indeed. It outpeforms my Cub in my system too but quite a bit.

About those bad-fps-addons, the Katana and Moth aren't even proper FSX models. The Katana at least is a ported FS9-model (same as the Do-27) and they usually perform much worse than properly done FSX addons.

I have to admit though that the Cub performs less fluid than I had hoped. And turning down scenery settings to get the fps up is a bummer in a bush plane. But if one bush plane is worth it, it's certainly the Cub.

By the way, is Nick's guide available as pdf somewhere?

Update...

FPS unlimited, FPS ranging from 13 to 45. Controls not smooth.
FPS locked at 20. FPS 19.8. Control smooth, view point panning smooth.
Much better.
