I have created a P-47 from the 56th FG, 61 FS named "Rat Racer" flowen by Capt. Frank E "Mac" McCauley. This one is war weary indicated by the WW at the end of the SN. As listed under WW it was transferred out to the 490th Bomb Group. I am also going to create the original Rat Racer as it was when she was combat ready, listed under HV-Z. Also take note of the overspray in the areas where the squadron indications would be, kill record, and serial number. This is true to the original Rat Racer when it went into WW status. I haven't posted it yet for download but I will post here announcing its availability.

In its release I am also going to include Capt. McCauley's combat action reports so you will know how his kills were earned.

More information on Rat Racer can be found here: http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/gallery.php?Group=56&Style=item&origStyle=list&Item=157&Temp=2151&searchString=

Thank you Res,

I'm in the middle of moving so when I get the internet back up at my house I'll upload her. The war weary one is done, I need to finish the HV-Z version to have them as one package.

Sorry for the delay.

I’m almost done with “Rat Racer.” I have been offline for some time due to moving. I say ‘almost done’ because I can’t get the color right that goes around US insignia. Here are some images of HVZ. I can’t find any good color photos of what color that outline should be. Could someone tell me what that color should be?

Once I get the color right I’ll release the textures for both the war weary and the combat ready versions of this historic P-47.

I can help you there, it should be insignia red.
Note however that is not an outline of the stars and bars like you have drawn it, but rather the blue outline of the roundel should be red.
Originally in the UK, the USAAF had this roundel: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File: ... 2-1943.svg
later, they added the white bars, and put a red outline around the whole thing: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File: ... l_1943.svg
later still, the red outline was changed to blue: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File: ... 3-1947.svg
The version you are looking for is the second one in this list.
Also, in most cases they put a second, oversized, roundel below the other wing too, that was very likely the case with rat racer too.

Good luck finishing,

Jan Kees

Thanks,

OK I have finally posted the Rat Racer in both forms. So its a two for one! It can be found at flightsim.com search for rat racer file name is ratracer10.zip
http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/content.php?106-Search-Results&cm=LISTFILES

Also included are the combat action reports by Lt. Frank E. McCauley as well as some historic photos. I tried my best to make it historically accurate. I hope it meets your expectations.

Thanks to:

To Little Friends (http://www.littlefriends.co.uk) for the information posted on their site to help recreate accurate repaints.

The blanks used as a basis for this repaint are by Martin Catney/ A2A simulations. Thanks, Martin, fantastic job!!

Also thank you to Jan Kees Blom for helping me get started in painting the wonderful A2A Simulations Wings of Power III P-47.

Kyle

Not flown the other yet. I liked that one for a quick spin becuase of the interesting cowling markings and history of the bird. Thanks for including the history in the download by the way. Great little added extra to read the combat reports etc 8)

No problem! I'm always interested to know a little about the bird I'm flying. Also those combat action reports are just cool! 8)
