Props through cowl flaps

Post by RacingLad »

Everytime I turn on the engine and deploy the cowl flaps I can see the prop swirling through the two top cowl flaps, the others are ok but I was wondering what could be causing this since I didn't experience this before.

Hope you guys can help.

Are we likely to see someone try to fix this issue?

It's been more than two weeks already.

I'm a bit confused here because you have the WoP3 Thunderbolt as your sig but you're posting in what is in practice the WoP2/WWII Fighters/SOLO version's forum.

Perhaps you have both variants and you accidently started up the wrong model?

If you are only running the WoP2/WWII Fighters/SOLO model, have you applied the FSX update?

The WoP2 model was originally built for FS2004 so without the FSX update you may see various graphic glitches.

If you meant the WoP3 model, perhaps something has changed with your video settings or graphic card drivers? I started the WoP3 model tonight and did not see the problem you describe, FWIW.

No, it's the P-47 Accu-sim, not solo. I have never heard of it or seen it. I see it all the time when i start up

The AccuSim version is the WoP3 model. As I said, I did not see this problem tonight when I started my AccuSim P-47. I zoomed the cockpit view in and out to be sure.

Hmmm, I have not seen this problem either. Is it possible to show a screenshot mate? Sorry to be so bothersome.

I've tried applying that FSX patch but it says it can't find P-47 within the FSX directory. That's a first.

I have also a pic but don't know how to upload it here.

Now that I know where to look, I started up FSX and saw the problem. Once the propeller starts spinning, a large portion of the inner cowl flaps become a shade lighter. Additionally, you can sometimes see a motion effect occuring in front of the flaps; having a bright sun at the rear of the plane makes this very noticeable. At its worst it looks like a thick engine vapor is steaming out from under the cowling.

So is this a widespread problem or is it only us; the unlucky few...

We were not aware of this visual glitch until it was recently reported. I need to get with Rob to see what is involved in patching this.
