KSEA/PHNL

Post by alan CXA651 »

Hi.
Just done a flight from KSEA/PHNL thought i was going to get slated on career but did`nt , weather on decent to PHNL was 060/9 3007 alt setting , weather suddenly changed drastically from clr 10 vis to 4 vis and atis changed to 080/9 3009 alt setting , because of this the dinner was served when i was configured for landing , also severe turbulance caused aircraft to climb , even though stick input was decending the aircraft , difficult to stay on beam , landing was ok though.

Alan, meals are served according to a time schedule, not according to aircraft configuration. Shift + 3 panel has a box labeled "meals" click that and it alternates between meals and no meals. If you want to stop service or end service quickly just click that box and you're set. That was added to COTS for just the reason you describe.

Hi Jacques.
I thought that could only be set prior to a flight , like the career button , i will look at this next flight , but there is two greyed out buttons once flight starts , and these cannot be altered during flight , i know career is one of these , i thought meals was the other , but will try and confirm which other button next flight.
it would have been better to have more than just time for meals , ie if flap position was included , so if like happened to me they where preparing meals , and flaps started to come down , then that meal would be cancelled automatically.

Yes, but I think A2A didn't consider how much us "pilots" would care about a meal service being conducted while landing, or maybe just didn't consider the possibility of this happening. When people began writing in to the forum about how they were forced to do circuits above the field until the service ended, they created the "button" which prevented service or began the clean up if the meal was already started. If I'm not mistaken, there is no penalty career-wise for landing during a meal service.

The Connie might address this more thoroughly, but I wouldn't bet they want to crack open the Strat again to address this more completely. Of course, I could be wrong.

Hi Jacques.
I am doing a flight from KLAX/PHNL as i write this , i was correct that two buttons are greyed out during a flight , one like i said is career mode , the other is cold-start setting , so you where right about the meal being selectable during flight , must admit i was a bit busy that day , due to sudden change of wind direction and deteriorating weather conditions , and taken aback that they should start the meal as i was turning finals at 3000ft , and like you stated i did not get penalised for landing during a meal , thankfully , or i would have been a bit miffed , to put it politely , as i did not wish to hang around , due to the conditions worsening .

Turning off the meal button prior to descent should sort out the meal issue, well before you get busy with the approach considerations.

Hi Trev.
Thanks for info , this was my first flight that this happened on , and was taken aback , as i thought they would know i was coming in to land due flaps lowered at time , i now know different , fore armed is fore warned as they say , i will not be caught out with this again .

Do we know if serving a meal while landing has any effect on career mode points?
