Looking at the forecast winds near your altitude you are in for more pain before they start to ease off! Much better winds at much lower altitudes, though.

Hi Jacques.
I am presently 900nm from PHNL at 28000ft headwinds of 66knts , just trying to figureout just when to start decent , when i was at 29000ft hdg towards EGLL on that flight i started my slow decent at the coast of scotland , at 300ft min , that took entire length of uk to get to an alt of 5000ft as i started a circuit for EGLL 27rR at 15 nm out from airport , so i think i am not far of starting a decent here going by that flight.

Hi.
just past waypoint ONOVY , hdg to waypoint WAPPO decending to 7000ft , had to put fasten seat belt signs on a few times due to unforcast turbulance , one such caused exclamation sounds , as i was decending at 300ft min , and VSI suddenly shot from that to plus 200 ft min climb , luckily the seatbelt sign was on for that one , but might get slated because of the weather , will find out after shutdown.

Hi.
High headwinds all the way from KLAX to PHNL, weather at PHNL not giveing a good approach , it ment runway 26L had to be used , with a 40 deg crosswind , the beam is offset and points to 26R , then at last minute you turn sharp left to lineup with 26L , turbulance comeing from nearby mountains not helping also entry to the ils beam is at 3000ft , so your decent rate is 500/700 ft min , untill final turn , this then can sometimes be as much as 1500ft min to get on the runway .
I had a few heavy turbulance moments , that where not forcast , one i had seat belts on liuckily when aircraft shot from 300ft min dec to 200ft min climb , not good for pax .

Just curious on how you decided to land at 26L? This runway is usually used for take-offs from 8R. Landings are then done on 8L. The windsock made it look as if you had a tail wind.

Not sure why the crew member grunted at your landing. It looked pretty smooth to me!

Hi.
As i got close to PHNL i was getting the ATIS , it was giveing wind as 300/5 nearest to 300 is runway 26 with a 40deg crosswind , so i had a choice a visual approach following base of mountains , to runway 26R and have the turbulance from them as well as the crosswind landing , or use runway 26L that has an offset ILS beam , and be further away from mountains , so any turbulance from them would be less of an impact , but i would still have the 40deg crosswind , at one point it was looking like i might get runway 4R which you join the ILS at 1500ft , but wind changed in favour of runway 26 when i was 30 nm away , the wind at this airport can swing around so quickly , it makes your runway choice very hard , so you need constant weather updates , till you are committed to one runway , and starting your decent , unfortunatly for me , when i got to the airport , wind was in favour of runways 26L/R.
As for the landing , i knew it was good , but untill i shut everything down , and looked at the comments in career , i did not know how good , according to that i greased the landing , so my best landing todate , both on guppy and pax versions , pity no career mode in the guppy , hope they change that on an update , after the connie comes out.

Hi.
Just done this flight again today , ASN played silly beggers yet again , as i started my decent from 28000ft for PHNL , i tuned into atis of 122.02 , first weather report sounded reasonable giving 10nm vis lowest cloud at 2500 scattered crosswind of 50 deg at 3knots for runway 04R ILS which as an entry alt of 1500ft , as i was decending there was thuinderstorms about , kept an eye on wind as it got to moderate turbulance i put the seatbelt/no smoking signs on , just as well as during my entire decent the winds where giveing moderate to light chop , the weather report changed 3 times , each time cloud base got lower , vis went from 10nm to 3nm then 5 nm wind on final approach was calm , but ASN definately somehow played silly beggers with both the auto pilot and as i discovered as i went to move mixture levers , they would not move , then i spotted the reason , ASN somehow caused the mixture lock to be put on , this is something i have never done , as for the auto pilot i was trying to line up on the centerline beam with autopilot before i fully dropped the flaps and got the gear down , but when i selected right turn , it turned left , had to disconnect auto pilot before i intended to , landing got a round of applause , also got a compliment from the co pilot , so must have been a good one.
