Not an auspicious beginning. :P

My first "take-off" ended in a crash at the end of the runway with three of the four engines on fire. I blame my crew. They should have told be that the controls were still locked, the tail was not erected yet, and there was no coolant in the engines (actually they did mention that last bit a few times, but didn't mention where the switches were )!

Yes, the beast has been tamed a bit.

My first flight was fairly short KBHM>KATL overall it went rather well until I landed, kind of a hard landing. But I enjoy this upgrade much more realistic.

I can't believe this! :D

We'll have to fly some of them in close formation and get a nice screenshot to celebrate :)

I think I missed something somewhere; How do I tell the engineer to start the engines? Am I supposed to use the auto-start button for that or is there a better way to do it?
(Or am I supposed to do it myself?)

Yes indeed. Pushing the Autostart button will start them. But admittently it's much more fun to start them yourself...

I've never been an airliner type but wow this is cool. I got bored with the original Accu-Sim 377 because it felt very lifeless and lonely. It's a complete 180 with COTS. I made my first short flight of 30 minutes tonight. I really like how the aircraft shakes and moves as passengers are boarding and the background noise. I like my new crew as well, especially when Heidi brings us coffee! I didn't run into any real problems. My landing was ok but not smooth. I don't know how well the passengers like the flight. The only comment I got was, "My bag fell on another person's head." Anyway, great stuff from A2A as usual. Looking forward to exploring with this bird some more.

The antidote for getting bored for me at least is pushing the 377's range to the limit: Take-off at max gross weight and go for a 3,200 NM flight. (Works wonders on the B-17 as well).

Cheers,

- jahman.

what i dont understand as to why you cant check the load manager or the mainenance hangar without the career mode being turned off???

Well, you can make repairs mid-flight via the maintenance hangar. So you could, for example, "fix" a problematic or failed engine mid flight. But that would totally negate the whole idea of being the Captain, because it's down to you, as the COTS, how best to deal with the emergencies that crop up from time to time. If you can just make any problems magically go away, then how will that provide you with a sense of achievement when you set her down safely after a serious engine failure, or a rapid de-compression?
It's all about the immersion factor, taking on the role of a Captain, and living, or perhaps not, with the decisions that you alone are responsible for making.
Hope that answers your question :)

Have fun !

Matt

You can, but you must be on the ground to check the load manager, and the engines must be off to check the maintenance hanger.

You can access the loading screen in flight without resetting the Career. Just don't change anything.

Echoing what somebody else said up-thread, the only thing that seems funny is that meals get served even after descent begins; So they will be sitting there eating dinner while you are flying the pattern. Good news is is that the plane is a whole lot smoother now, so it isn't a big deal and the 'passengers' don't seem to mind standard maneuvering.

I like the way the speed bleeds off now in the flare, so even if you come in a little hot, you don't have to float for too far. Almost seems like the pitch axis is a little less sensitive than it was before, giving it a bit of a heavier feel, but making it easier to control...less likely to balloon out when flaring.

So my 'Captain's Salary' is up to $9500 in 1950s dollars, and the plane feels like a "house party". :D Is it just inevitable that we all going to compare our pilot skills here soon??? :D

I'm disappointed, in all honesty. To purchase the Strat/Accusim bundle is under $60, but to add COTS to the Strat/Accusim bundle I just purchased in February brings my price up to $77.

Bruce,

This product came out almost three years ago and this is our largest Accu-Sim project to date, so the majority of existing customers have had this for quite some time. What took you so long? :)

We are happy to grandfather in some more savings for anyone who purchased Accu-Sim in the past few months. You fall a bit outside that, but just go ahead and order it and PM me, and I'll give you a nice discount.

Scott.

Love the "away from keyboard" feature, PAUSE in emergency.

Excellent idea :D ,

no more coming back to your PC to find yourself at the Gate... again!
