It could be that your examples are in the wrong format or they are too large. They have to be in .JPEG format and the size needs to be about 220 kilobytes or less. You then have to upload them as an attached file. It took me a while to figure it out.

Good Luck!

Hello everybody, I'm new from France and my English isn't so bad, but not perfectly because sometimes I don't understant what you say.
I read many times your topic about Landing Lights and I thought we need to to do that for strobes and beacons lights, if it's possible of course. I tried with screenshots but all strobes don't flash at the same time, and with Fraps, i cannot identify strobes. If someone is interested in my video of Shockwave strobes and can do something with that, send me a private message.
Is someone able to explain me what are the extensions on your effects files as:

Code: Select all

light.0= fx_shockwave_strobe
light.1= fx_shockwave_strobe_2
light.2= fx_shockwave_strobe_2_nl
light.3= fx_shockwave_strobe_3
light.4= fx_shockwave_strobe_3_nl
light.5= fx_shockwave_strobe_l
light.6= fx_shockwave_strobe_l_2
light.7= fx_shockwave_strobe_l_2_nl
light.8= fx_shockwave_strobe_3
light.9= fx_shockwave_strobe_3_l
light.10= fx_shockwave_strobe_3_nl
light.11= fx_shockwave_strobe_l_nl
light.12= fx_shockwave_strobe_l_nl_2
light.13= fx_shockwave_strobe_l_nl_3
light.14= fx_shockwave_strobe_lowl
light.15= fx_shockwave_strobe_nl
light.16= fx_shockwave_strobe_nl_2
light.17= fx_shockwave_strobe_nl_3
light.18= fx_shockwave_strobe_sm
light.19= fx_shockwave_strobe_sm_2
light.20= fx_shockwave_strobe_sm_2_nl
light.21= fx_shockwave_strobe_sm_3
light.22= fx_shockwave_strobe_sm_3_nl
light.23= fx_shockwave_strobe_sm_nl
What are 1, 2, 2_nl, 3, 3_nl, l, l_2, l_2_nl, l_3 etc ... ?
Thanks
Sincerely

Hi Tornado_F5,

to answer your question: Please read the manual (PDF-File) that came with your Software.

However, here you find a short list taken from the manual:

Lights Overview:
===========================================
Fx_shockwave_landing_light
Standard landing halogen light – this is our standard landing light and should be tried first.

Fx_shockwave_landing_light_old
Older bulbs with less brightness and with a touch of yellow.

Fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon
Latest technology in lighting and quite bright, if not blinding.

Fx_shockwave_landing_light_light
This is an actual ambient light we place below and forward of the aircraft. This lights up the front lower part,
representing the reflections and light that slips out of the side of the bright landing lights and results in the
lighting up of the actual aircraft. Placing this ambient light just right takes a lot of trial and error to look right.
This technique is new for Redux.

Fx_shockwave_landing_light_short
Shorter beam – we placed these in the Lear to improve the smoothness of the beam (reduce the ripples on the
fuselage) when close and below the aircraft.

Fx_shockwave_landing_light _narrow
Narrow beam that works well when a light is placed right next to the fuselage (reduces the ripple on the fuselage).

Fx_shockwave_landing_light_l
Larger beam spread.

Fx_shockwave_beacon
Shockwave beacon, first used on Wings of POWER planes. Beacon light fades down after lighting up.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_b
Used when below the fuselage, “b” stands for “below”.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_h
Used when above the fuselage, “h” stands for “high”.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_l
Large beacon, “l” stands for ‘large”.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_nl
Doesn’t cast any red ambient light, “nl” stands for “no light”.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_lowl
Casts a shorter light, “lowl” stands for “low light”.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_rotating_red
Simulated rotating beacon, nice for older aircraft. This light swells, pulses, then diminishes with every flash.

Fx_shockwave_navgre
Shockwave green nav light. First used on Wings of POWER planes.

Fx_shockwave_navred
Shockwave red nav light. First used on Wings of POWER planes.

“nl” and “old” variants of the lights also exist.

Fx_shockwave_strobe
New strobe effect – modeled after what the eye actually sees when viewing a real strobe. Light flashes fast
twice.

Fx_shockwave_strobe_2
Slightly longer timing – allows the light to slightly drift out of sync with the standard strobe.

Fx_shockwave_strobe_3
Same as Fx_shockwave_strobe_2, except further out of sync.

Fx_shockwave_strobe_l
New strobe effect – modeled after what the eye actually sees when viewing a real strobe. Large, single flash.
Good for airliners.

Fx_shockwave_strobe_nl
Strobe flashes but does not cast light.

Fx_shockwave_vclight
Standard cockpit lighting. Aircraft VC light positions were slightly altered for better results.

Fx_shockwave_vclight_l
Large cockpit lighting.
===========================================

I hope this was helpful.

Please bliksimpie (or someboy else) can you tell me where did you find all the parameters that modify the lights shape and intensity?

Are these parameters "addeble", I mean can you just make a string of parameters like "_narrow_old_Heli_down_45" to obtaine a certain effect?

And by te way, what is the effect of the light types in aircraft.cfg (... 5=landing, 6= taxi, ...) if I can just put a beacon light in a landing light and viceversa?

Thank you all! :D

No, you can't just compile your own variety. All shockwave lights are effect files that you can find in the FSX/Effects folder (they all start with fx_shockwave). You can only use what's in there.

About the light types: you need that info so that Flight Simulator knows which lights to switch on and off when you use the beacon, strobe, nav, landing light and taxilight switches in the cockpit. ;)
Happy Landings

****NOTE ON SweetApple_MC's POST ABOVE****

Fx_shockwave_beaconh <<=== there should be NO "_" underscore before "h"
Used when above the fuselage, “h” stands for “high”.

Fx_shockwave_beaconb <<=== there should be NO "_" underscore before "b"
Used when below the fuselage, “b” stands for “below”.

***THIS IS ALSO TRUE FOR THE "Shockwave_3D_lights_Redux_manual.pdf" ENTRIES****

I found the listing of lights and types vrey helpful but have some questions. I'm running version 1.2 on FSX.

1. The config database for the MAAM-SIM DC-3 Passenger says to include gauge02=shockwave_lights!SW Lights_gear, 1,1,1,1 //shockwave light
in the panel.cfg for vc01 however, the lights are not on the gear so I should not need this - correct?

2. Both the manual and SweetApple_MC's post indicate that old versions exist for lights but Nav (excepth white) and beacons don't have old versions. They do have l (small letter el) versions. Should I have old versions of nav an becon lights.

Thanks.

Can't find any "Heli-lights" (version 1.2a), same as Show in first post with examples of lights.
