If you use the aerosoft catalina , then i would estimate the trip times at about the 90knts , as at 110knts is pushing it a bit in that old girl.

Alan, I've found that with the MP set at 27 and props set at 2050 r.p.m. she cruises quite happily at around 110 knots Those are the recommended settings in the manual. By pushing the MP a bit, I can get her up to between 120 and 125 knots. :)

Surprise surprise, Pitcairn is do-able in the B-17. I've just 'discovered' the Gambier Islands in French Polynesia, which are nicely placed between Tahiti and Pitcairn, and Totegegie airport boasts a 2000m asphalt runway. It reduces the longest unrefuelled flight to about 650 miles.

Tristan remains a problem, however.

Hey Paul,
I am just about to pass 10hrs in flight and am about 2.5 hrs away from landing.
Currently 200nm south east of Tasmania, Australia due to land at Dunedin, New Zealand.
I wasn't planning on doing this trip. I use Rex for my weather but its no good over oceans so I bought FS Global Real Weather which is working out nicely on this test flight.
I started out flying west of Perth, Western Australia 2 hrs. 560nm, then south about the same. I was planning on heading back up to Perth but decided to press on towards Adelaide or Melbourne down along 40S. I was sitting up at FL250 enjoying 50-60 tail winds so I changed my final destination to NZ. :)

Yes. I started after lunch at 1pm. Its currently 10.55pm Perth time.
I normally record position with sextant and all fluids/temps/engines every 30 mins but this one I just let fly. Come back every 15 mins to reset the gyro but that's about it. Now I'm just watching youtube aviation videos on the second pc since its getting late.
steveo1kinevo is a good channel

The crew tell me the cabin heater is on the blink so its sitting at 18 degrees but that's ok.

I was just wondering how you fill the time. Youtube is handy ! I know someone who flies for a virtual airline, and on long hops, he sets it on autopilot, goes into the lounge and sits with the wife in front of the TV. I bet she feels very honoured. I'm going to use the bubble sextant myself on my RTW, having studied Steermandriver's excellent tutorials.

By the way, how's the VAS usage on a flight of this length ? Which sim are you using - FSX, FSX Steam, or P3D ?

P3D on this one. I do fly FSX also.
No idea on the vas. Only had one crash coming into Orbx Onslow from Dubrovnic.
