engines age

Post by alan CXA651 »

Hi.
In the 175.8 hrs of the b17 airframe that i have so far , i have never managed to get the engines above 25 hrs , but the engines i have now are exceding all my previous engines , and still going strong , yes they are hard to start , and during initial start up , i get a message in red saying they have problems , but message goes after a short time on warm up, the engines rattle like a tin full of nuts , the cowls vibrate badly , but every time i look in the hangar , the engines have no faults , i am just curious now , as to how many hrs i can get on them , what are the oldest engine hrs on your b17 , heres mine sofar.
eng 1 :- 68.1 hrs
eng 2 :- 69.7 hrs
eng 3 :- 73.0 hrs
eng 4 :- 71.3 hrs

Someone here has mentioned having something like 3-400 hours on all engines.

I have over 1760 hours on my B-17G airframe with engine hours close behind that.

I have 2749 air frame hours and average between 600-800 hours on my engines. Sometimes I get a lemon and only get 300 or so hours.

Gypsy Baron (Paul) is without a doubt the master of engine management!

Kudos Gypsy Baron for your engine management. On my new B-17 I did the embarrassing belly landing at 330+/- hours and had to replace all engines. When I hit 1000 AF hours I was at 667+/- on my engines but I struggled to get that out of them. They were getting tired. Now I'm at 1172 AF hours and 171+/- on the engines. I have learned a lot during the first 1000 hours and hopefully I can get more out of them this time through.

Does it make a difference on how the game is set up for realism? I run with detect crashes and damage enabled so that if I do crash her I have to pay the price but what about other settings?

Roger

Holy crap  1500+ hours on the airframe! Man that's a lot of flying in the B-17! Nice job! I'm scraping 100h on airframe and engines.

Hi.
Just done a 4hrs flight , eng inst showed no problems during flight , engineer and co pilot never notified me of any probs , but i did notice eng 2 was starting to give signs of a problem , as i glanced out the window , i saw a puff of thick black smoke , kept looking out periodically , and saw more of these inccidents , something is beginning to go , on shutdown eng 2 was the only engine that had no faults , each of the other engines have one worn cylinder.
airframe hrs 182.0
eng1 74.2 hrs cyl 5 worn
eng2 75.7 hrs , no faults sowing but need too watch
eng3 79.2 hrs cyl 4 worn
eng4 77.5 hrs cyl 7 worn
