required runway lenght???
required runway lenght???
hello guys. if any one has flown this thing for real how much runway does she need for take off and landing? I have some flights on FSX in Ohio. but the runway is only 4,400 feet long by 100 feet wide. she would not have bombs on just fuel.

Re: required runway lenght???
I can't remember the length of the runway, but I have flown in and out of Shoreham(EGKA) several times. Of course with a very light fuel load.
I use default airports and photo scenery

Re: required runway lenght???
They say the minimum length for a very light B17 is 1700.

Re: required runway lenght???
so it just depends on the weight and weather? cause my home field of KBJJ in in Ohio is 5,192 by 100 and I can get in/out with not to much trouble.
Re: required runway lenght???
Wow that's ample length for even a heavy B17.

Check out this forum. If you scroll down a bit you'll get a performance table with the takeoff distances at various weights and elevations.

Re: required runway lenght???
well I know they can fit in my home field. cause I have seen the B-17 Nine O Nine there. and I have had the A2A b17 in and out with no troubles at all. but 4,400 may be to short. I am thinking you would have to be barely above stall to make it.

Well try it and see.You will be very happy I think.
Do not pull up too much after the wheels leave the ground.

Re: required runway lenght???
I'm sneaking up on 1000 hours in my B17 with maybe 4-5 thousand landings. I am not afraid to put her down on a 1600 foot runway so long as there are no obstacles to clear on final. You must be precise and hit the runway short. No hoovering attempting to make that perfect landing. Make a precise flair and get your hydraulic pressure up so you have good breaks. 1600 feet is good for takeoff too, even with obstacles. I prefer 2000 feet + however. Always attempt these with low fuel levels and never land with bombs on board of course.
Good luck and have fun. For me, the 17, she is the greatest.

Re: required runway lenght???
This might be the shortest runway I have a video of. The approach is steep, approach has obstacles but they are somewhat distanced from the runway, 1900 feet, runway has dog-leg, up-hill roll. This was a fun landing.
