Re: Update B17 cockpit?
I for one hope they don't. Sorry but I rather see a fully TacPacked B-17 update and also a B-24. Just my opinion.

Re: Update B17 cockpit?
Any update that wasn't vintage WWII would be an abomination. IMHO. Anything that was vintage WWII would be fine. It's a great cockpit as it is.

As much of an abomination as the civilian P-51?blockwood wrote:Any update that wasn't vintage WWII would be an abomination. IMHO.

Re: Update B17 cockpit?
I completely understand those who want vintage period-style aircraft and cockpits. There is something to be admired about the "real deal". There is the same type of love for cars. Having said that, FSX is a modern world, so I also understand those who wish to fly "modern" warbirds - especially since I am one of those people!

FSX can be any time period you want to make it.
Re: Update B17 cockpit?
I wouldn't mind the option of an updated cockpit. I love both p51s.

Re: Update B17 cockpit?
Beyond my earlier, cheeky ( ) reply, I actually have mixed feelings about this question.
The 1940's cockpits/panels are much more characterful, to me at least, and I prefer them.
On the other hand, FSX is a civilian flightsim and it's sometimes hard to find roles for vintage a/c, apart from airshow displays and such.
At the risk of repeating myself, what I'd really like to see for the B-17 is a couple of variant external models of civilianized versions - visual only, no need for revised flight dynamics - that would allow a few postwar missions - SAR, cargo-hauling, etc.
Other hardcore developers do this from time to time (PMDG has published visual-model-only versions of the 747-400 LCF and the P-8 Poseidon). So there's a precedent. I doubt that A2A will ever want to devote resources to this kind of modeling, as opposed to "new construction" that helps advance their technology.
But I can dream...

Re: Update B17 cockpit?
Hello,
I gotta chime in on this one. I fully see both sides of the coin here. However, for me, my B-17G is flown in the modern age. And as such it requires the modern technologies that are offered in todays aviation. During my flight on 'Witchcraft' (Collins Foundation's B-24 Liberator) I snapped a few shots of the panel. Seems real pilots prefer to have the navigational aids from this century as much as some of us simmers. You can get great apps for your smart phone that will give you loads of data.
It is still up to the individual simmer to decide if navigational aids are important or not and if you like the idea of flying with the same aids that were provided in 1944 then grab your charts, sextants, and stopwatch and have at it
Sorry for image quality. It was the best camera I had

Re: Update B17 cockpit?
vicfly ,I for one do !NOT! want a modern 'pit on this bird !AT ALL!, she is perfect just as she is.
besides, you already have a GPS in the bird, it is called a navigation officer.
there is a really good map also, with all kinds of bells and whistles that the vanilla map doesn't have, like moving map, vor needle overlays, course markers, variable detail settings, etc. I strongly suggest you try it out; just start a flight on the ramp, start the puttputt (auxiliary generator) and just pop up the a2a map display and spend some time monkeying around with the settings and getting to know the map. you will soon find that you don't need an gps.
