So are the yellowed gauge faces only on those few gauges as seen in the screenshots or will it be on all of them? It just looks a bit silly to me that they aren't all equally yellowed, are there real B-17's like that?

Gauges aged differently and there was also replacement gauges that will always look newer. I am going to tone down the yellowed look for the next release.

Toning down the yellow would make it just about perfect. I also found the yellow a little bit too strong compared to the rest of them. Other than that it looks great!

Textures are updated today (see first post on first page) to show less yellowing on the gauges and a red master switch (worn of course).

Thanks for all the testing and good advice, really helps to make it just look as correct as possible.

Now available to download at Flightsim.com or SimOuthouse.com in their FSX files section.

Final texture pictures in my first post on the first page. I want to thank all that tested this for me and say that you really helped to get the final version correct.

I've just been over to look for the weathered cockpit but can't find anything, can you tell me what the file name is so I can search on that. Your work looks fantastic, thank you.

It might not be up yet at Flightsim.com but I think SimOuthouse has it in there fsx files. Just go to their home page and select FSX addons and it is the first one. If not then search for
"B-17 weathered and worn cockpit for A2A B-17 with Accusim"

I love the worn look of your repaint. Some points I would like to note:

- Did you take the screencaps using a high level of gamma correction? The parts that are dark have some hideous, extremely ugly colour banding issue. It's not necessarily your repaint's fault if you had gamma correction enabled while taking the screencaps. Examples where banding is clearly present: in day picture, under and to the left of magneto switches. In the night picture: everywhere where it's dark. (Then again, problem exists on textures outside the cockpit, pointing out to gamma correction instead of repaint.)

- Steering wheel could use (a lot) more wear. I cannot imagine any part (aside from rudder pedals but those were unpainted to begin with) that are subject to same levels of abrasion during use.

- Like pointed out, the yellowish tanning is a bit too much. Especially in the night cockpit which has a bluish fluorescent light source, it's pretty odd to have yellowish glow on the gauges. Grayish might stand out less.

- Also, the gauges seem to be uniformly lighted during the night. If I remember correctly the original night cockpit had taken the light sources into better consideration regarding how the light is projected to gauges.

Anyway, that cockpit is extremely well repainted but it still needs some final touch to obtain perfection. Judging from the screencaps, your's look better during day but I'd hate to sacrifice the beauty of stock night lighting in the cockpit. Then again, I'm making quite hard conclusions based on scaled down screencaps that have been butchered by gamma correction... and I could of course cherry pick all repainted textures except the gauges, if nighttime lighting is as big of an issue as it would seem to be from the screencaps.

Could you upload the final files to some generic file host? Megaupload, Rapidshare, Fileserve, Mediafire, etc. I really hate those buggy FSX sites who require me to register just to download ...and like Simouthouse, doesn't even accept my Hotmail due to "hacker risk". FSX-specific filehosts are also unreliable in terms of uptime and internal routing (dead links, failing search engines, etc.) and also malware warnings. So, please, could you use some generic filehost as well? Then put a direct link to the first post.

I think Warbirds has it just right. Did a couple of long flights today and the cockpit looks great - wouldn't touch a thing. Pic of panel on night flight

Screencap posted by Mikenor has no colour banding issue. It must have been gamma correction issue with the original set of screencaps, then... and I'm happy that seems to be the case: it would have been a bloody shame would an otherwise excellent repaint have been ruined by quantization (bit-depth reduction) banding. Luckily this is not the case and the issue must have been in capturing the image instead of the repaint itself.

I'll definitely get this repaint.
