I'm getting my new CH Products Throttle Quad tomorrow.

Any advice in setting it up?

Just in case no one has said it...

This is a great add-on for FSX.

I use the Saitek pedals and throttle quadrants and set them up via FSX's controller settings. I use FSUIPC for calibration and de-linearizing only. I use different "standard.XML" files (the FSX file where the controller and keyboard settings are stored) for different setups. For A2A aircraft - especially the B17 - I additionally use their own configurator for some special settings. Up to now the only problems I have experienced were due to cross settings used on both FSX and FSUIPC but this is not Saitek-specific. One thing might be interesting however: I never use any driver software as provided by Saitek or Logitech. I just let the standard windows driver do their job and never had ANY problems with that.

Here's a view of my rig:

In the meantime however the triplehead is gone and replaced by a 24" 1920 x 1200 screen and there's also an additional 1280 x 1024 Screen on the "lower rank". So I got plenty of room for 2D panels and such...

Oskar, thanks for posting that photo of your setup. It's always interesting to see how others work with FSX. I especially liked the way you tiered the monitors.

I was wondering why you dispensed with TH2G. I use it, and I can't conceive of my ever going back to a single monitor, even a 30-inch one. Also, how are you making out using just a 24-inch one, and any regrets about the change?

Robert

Well I use 3 monitors. 2 computers. The main computer runs FSX only and I have a 24" widescreen for that and the second computer runs everything else. I have 2 22" widescreen monitors on either side of the 24. This works well for me. I have a large desk and have everything spread across it.

Because of the main computer and bigger power supply with 3 LCD's and the fact that the room faces to the south it can get quit warm. The main computer is also liquid cooled. For these reasons I bought a used portable airconditioner for the office to use on days when it's nice enough out not the run the air but gets very warm in the room.

I just got notice that the throttles are at my front door waiting for me to get home. If I didn't have an excuse to want to leave work now I have one. I'm sure I won't get much sleep tonight.

Question on having the throttle quad and the yoke connected. On some airacraft I will still use the yokes throttle would I need to remove the TQ when not in use? Or just not use FS controls to map them? Should I use the A2A for the B-17 to map the throttles?

Well I got the throrrles in and there's going to be a learning curve on programming it.

My first flight was tense. I still had the throttle set in the yoke and after takeoff #1 kept loosing power. couldn't figure out why so after I leveled off @ 3000 I pull the power back and feathered the prop and cut fuel. Then so I wasn't pulling to the left I shut down #4 and landed on 2 engines.

Ironic thing is it was my best landing to date.

Gotta spend time tonight getting things programed correctly.

Thanks for posting these pix. Nice to see the kit. I have the Saitek throttles and Pro Yoke and love them.
Couple of questions guys.

On the second throttle quad, did it come with the extra black knobs, and are they easy to change?

And the Saitek rudder pedals, are they any good? I didn't know whether to go for them or the CH ones.
I prefer the look of the CH ones but so far the Saitek stuff has been good to work with.

And the Saitek switch panel, is it worth the money?
For instance does it put a big grin on your face like the throttle quad and yoke does when using it?

And lastly, why oh why do you not have TrackIR? I'd highly recommend it, makes such a difference to a virtual cockpit.

Thanks for any info in advance.
Cheers.

Very nice Oskar!!

Which widescreen monitor did you get? I've got a Formac 20.1" 1600x1200 4:3 at the moment and looking for a super high res wide-screen to go with it (must have excellent vertical viewing angle though - I'm hyper sensitive to the change in contrast across the vertical).

After trying FSX on the 1920x1080 display I soon missed the extra vertical viewing area, though the width was rather nice.

Best regards,
Robin.
