dutch/british/polish/australian Spitfire

Post by jcblom »

Here's a few shots of a simple repaint (I mainly used the default textures) for the A2A spitfire, in the colors of 'Krakatau' which flew with No.303 'Warszawski' Polish Sqn from RAF Northolt in 1941. The name 'Krakatau' ( a volcano in Indonesia) stems from the fact that this was a presentation aircraft, payed for by the people of the Dutch East Indies. About 40 Spitfires flew with the RAF with names of the villages or groups who collected the money for these Spits.
So nothing special paintwise, but I liked the strangeness of it all, a RAF spitfire, payed for by an island in the Dutch East Indies and flown by a Polish pilot. The aircraft failed to return form a mission in august 1941, while being flown by Sgt Geoffrey Chapman of No.452 RAAF Sqn...
