Tip tanks

Post by guillaume78150 »

Useless topic but looking at both aircraft side by side, I found the Comanche better looking with tip tanks unlike the Bonanza which looks better without.
Only my opinion.

I see it the op. Comanche with tip tanks and Bonanza without looks better. But it also depends on the repaint.

I prefer the look of no tip tanks but prefer the performance and extra fuel of the tip tanks. Lol

My saying about aircraft and tip tanks since the 60's, is that anything that can have tip tanks looks better with them than with out them. Two of the earliest examples for me were the F-104s & T-33s. With tip tanks they are two of my favorite classic fighter jets. Without tip tanks, neither looks right.

Dudley will cringe at this, but my favorite P-51 model is a Cavalier with the tip tanks. There's one of the few original Cavaliers is still based here at SRQ unless it's moved. It is stunning each time it flies over our work area. If it was just another Mustang, I would still be impressed as heck, but not nearly as much. I think the only "P-51" I would enjoy seeing more would be a P-48 Enforcer.

Remember it's not about fighter capability and maneuvering, it's about how flippin' cool tip tanks look. :)

And like Lewis said, IMO both the Bonanza and the Comanche look naked without them.

Before the Comanche, I didn't think I liked tip tanks because they clashed with my preconception: aircraft aesthetics dictate that the machine always needs to taper towards its extremities. But since the Comanche, they've grown on me to the point that the PA-24 looks positively naked without them. And with the substantial increase in range they provide, I haven't been able to take them off my Bo since they dramatically enhance its cross-country endurance.
