Undocking Panels in 4.3

Post by crippy »

Hello all,
I use the A2A planes with the SHIFTX menus. I prefer to fly with these menus open on a small second monitor.

In P3Dv4.2 I originally had this same issue. Undock panels and the frame rate halves. I solved this issue by disabling all external frame rate limiters such as in my Evga software. This solved the issue in 4.2

In 4.3 this horrid gremlin is back, however removing, adding, frame rate limiters does nothing. I've played around with all the settings in the main graphics menu in p3d, with no luck at all.

When I undock a frame, the frame rate goes from 60 to exactly 7.5.

I have tried the common fix of:
[PANELS]
PANEL_MAX_UPDATE_PER_FRAME = 1

However this does nothing.

I highly suspect the P3Dv4.3 update as this was no issue before in 4.2. Also P3Dv4 was the only piece of software update on the machine.

I am using a I5-4670K with a GTX 1070. My main monitor is a 1920x1080 and my second monitor is a 1280x1024.

I posted this over on the P3D forms, but I also wanted to see if anyone else may have the same issue / fix.

Thanks,

Chris

Hello Crippy,
I too have suffered from FPS drop with 2D windows opened. Mine was in P3Dv4.0 but the fix may be the same. Please see this thread. There are several suggestions but the second to last states my fix.

Hi Roger,
Thank you for the help! I tried that with no luck, however:
I can confirm it was the EVGA software. I tried every setting in the book to make it cooperate with no luck.

Simply close out of EVGA PrecisionX and the problem goes away.

So I've got afterburner setup now and I'll use that before launching P3D to ensure the GPU doesn't overheat.

For anyone using EVGA software all in like me, afterburner will control the fan speed, and recognize existing settings. It's got even got the same Logitech LCD output like EVGA for outputting the temps to the keyboard LCD if you use that. (important to me)

Thanks again for all the help Roger!

Chris

I'm glad you got it sorted Crippy,
I have tried several times to get Precision X to work properly in the background but it always seemed to be just a nuisance. I tried Afterburner with much the same results. I've found OSD's to be troublesome as FSX does not like screen overlays (no LCD on my keyboard) . Then I went to a custom water loop and all my cooling troubles are gone. I finally uninstalled both GPU programs and my system seems happier.

I now use OpenHardware Monitor to keep an eye on temps, GPU usage,
CPU usage, radiator fan speeds, memory usage, etc and niether FSX nor P3Dv4.x have any trouble with the screen overlay from it. I find it fascinating to watch GPU vs. CPU usage as scenery changes during my flights.

Cheers
Roger

EDIT: it is always good to clear cache occasionally and as stated in the link in other thread. I find my simulator runs smoothly after I clear cache.
