91st Bombardment Group???
91st Bombardment Group???
it has been a long time since I have flown with any one else or done anything like this. but I'm wondering do you use A2A fighters and bombers? and when you do this do you let the planes sit and warm up first or just start them and go? I am curious about the site and not much information is available with out registering for the site first. do you guys give salutes when meeting and stuff? do we have to go flight training first or what? and how often do you meet/fly?

Hi.
Just replied to your pm.
No we do not salute , the bombers , we usually start up , and when the engines have partly warmed , we carefully taxi to the designated takeoff runway , by the time we get into positon for takeoff the engines are warm .
The escort figthers start at a different airfield to the bombers , and need to let the engines get to the desired temps just before you takeoff.
You need to remember that fuel is gold on long missions , the less you waste the better.
regards alan.

well as far as the B-17 goes I know how to taxi and take off and land. not always the smoothest of landings but I can use the plane again the next day
Re: 91st Bombardment Group???
I appreciate the information about your website sir. but unfortunately I can't be a pilot with you. I don't fly that much per day . and 9 hours seems like a lot. I only fly about 2 hours a day there is no way I can do 9 hours any more. besides I think I would need more planes for FSX and I can't afford any more planes at this time.

The 91st is a good group. Consider registering to meet like-minded pilots who, like you, can't commit to the long missions but can fly hops or circuits with you. Just a thought.

Most 'historical' missions are under 4 hours. The missions deeper into Germany may run 5 to 6 hours.
If the mission exceeds 5+ hours, after striking the target the group may 'divert' to Sweden or another neighboring country in the interest of keeping the mission length reasonable.
The longest flights are our 'special events'. The 'Iron Man' December 6th flight from Hamilton AAF base, California to Hickam Field on Oahu. A couple of the 'Hop List' flights also run 10+ hours. Those are not 'mandatory flights'. Those 'hop flights' require 1, 2 or 3 other B-17's to fly the hop in formation in order to gain 'rank'. There are 135 hops broken up into 5 'phases. Phases 1 and 2 are flown as an individual flight. Phase 3, 2 B-17s, Phase 4, 3 B-17's and Phase 5, 4 B-17s.
Our 'daily flights typically run less than 2 hours. These are casual 'fun flights' flown in a variety of aircraft.

10+ hours is quite a lot. but a couple hours flying does not sound bad at all. I will still consider joining. will I need any pay ware add-ons? cause I did see that the spitfire is used as well?

Hi.
The spit is not part of the 91st , i do have it and its nice to fly , but your choice if you buy it or not , once again its not a mandatary aircraft.

ok that is music to my ears that I don't need to buy an airplane to fly with you. I'm sorry I have not joined yet. I still thinking about it though. I have a lot going on right now and I am working on some flying stuff that I have had for years.
