RAF 100 years, 100 cockpits

Post by Tutmeister »

To celebrate 100 years if the RAF, the RAF museum are holding 8 special events across the year at both sites of the RAF museum where there will be 100 open cockpits for you sit in and examine. In fact all year there are special events to mark the centenary. At Hendon you can sit in a mk16 spit I believe. Anyway I booked all the events which wasn't cheap but I feel is a once in a lifetime experience when you see the list!

List for the first two events this month:

British Aircraft Corporation TSR 2 (close view only)

SEPECAT Jaguar ACT Demonstrator

Fairey FD2

Saunders-Roe SR53

Hawker-Siddeley Kestrel FGA.1

Avro Lincoln B2 (limited access)

Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka

Kawasaki Ki-1001b

Messerschmitt BF109G-2/Trop (close view only)

Supermarine Spitfire I (close view only)

Messerschmitt Me 163B-1a Komet

Lister Works Truck

Phantom

Canberra

Hucks Starter

Vampire F3

Merlin EH101

Whirlwind

Hunter

Gloster Meteor F8

Sopwith Snipe

Jet Provost 5

The other aircraft will be released closer to each event.

Link for event one is here, limited to only 300 though.

Used to have a jet provost cockpit at my local air cadets in Crewe Cheshire, many many years ago, first cockpit i ever climbed into, and was the spark for my aviation enthusiasm. The cadets gave me the oppertunity to fly in the shakelton, nimrod, chipmunk, bulldog, zedburg glider, and a flight in a Jaguar, that i won in a shooting comp. Not bad for a 13/14 yr old :D. Bit too far for a visit these days, enjoy your experience :D

That's really cool, thanks for the heads up Chris. Think I might need to treat myself.

I haven't been in a Lincoln since I was 8 years old, so I'm interested! :)

I'm hoping that at the Hendon ones we get to go in the Lanc! I doubt it though, notice they only let you get 'up close' to the MK1 spit :)

Of course... It was great but I'm rebuilding my sim room so don't have a working computer. Once it is back together I'll get more up. Second event is looming too, this one at Hendon, sat 25th!
