Instructions for modifying MFG Crosswind pedals

Post by dvm »

Just in case anyone is interested in making new pedals for their Crosswinds here are some crude instructions. Just print the dropbox file on a standard piece of 8.5 x 11 paper and you should have a 1 to 1 image you can cut out and trace. You will have to determine the location of the two mounting holes. The bottom of my pedals is 1.5 inches from the center of the bottom mounting hole to give you a starting point. I used button head screws and the thread for the bolts is 6mm course. The length is not critical too long is OK, too short won't get it done 1.5 inches or longer will probably work. There is some info on my project in the following threads. The holes are just for looks and can be omitted and make for a much simpler project. The easiest material to use in my opinion is a piece of laminate flooring with the smooth side up (read the other threads where I bloviate on the project). If you need any help just ask.

Don't let the mounting holes in the photos throw you off as they are not correct. I had to lower the pedals with a plate on my install as I screwed up.

I printed out the image from the dropbox file and it printed .25 inches smaller in both dimensions. You can easily compensate for this when tracing it onto your material. You may want to adjust the dimensions a little to your liking. I wear size 9.5 shoe so you can make adjustments to suit your big damn feet. :D

While communicating with Milan in regards to my replacement brake cables I asked him if he still might someday offer a different style pedal similar to my modified pedal. He said that he hoped later in the year to offer such an option. I am sure it will be more attractive than my attempt. So be patient if you don't want to build your own. I would assume that for those who already own the crosswind pedals the new style could be purchased and retrofitted. Those buying the pedals for the first time will likely have their choice. The details are of course just supposition on my part.
