I've Redone Raydon!

Post by Ian P »

For those that like to fly the P-51D (and the P-47D, for that matter, plus almost certainly the Texan...) from period scenery, I've just uploaded and released version 2.0 of my RAF Raydon - formerly known as S157, now as X3RA.

It was briefly home to two USAAF 9th Air Force units before being passed to the 8th AF and the 353rd Fighter Group, who stayed there for the rest of the war.

This is a complete recreation of the scenery, literally from the ground up (I kept the original aerodrome reference point?) using a lot of new models and including SODE-controlled runway control caravans and "landing T". There's also a very simple AI file using the WoP3 P-51D in there to give the place some life.

You can find it here: http://www.ianpsdarkcorner.co.uk/flight ... af-raydon/

Have fun. :)

Cheers,

Ian P.

Interesting Ian. I've been looking for somewhere to try the T6. I'll probably give the P51 a go there as well. Thanks very much.

Hi again Ian. I finally got round to installing this and giving it a go.
I downloaded the 3 repaints that you referenced, so thanks to the authors of Little Witch, Mad Irishman and Janie (Antihero6713, Jan Kees Blom and Tom Weiss I think).

Looking good. Nice to have some AI around as well, thanks for that.
I installed SODE as well, how will I know if that's working at Raydon?
(ah, just read your OP again, it gives runway contol caravans and 'landing T'.....)

Any chance of any T6 AI on there as well? 8)

Thanks again.

Thanks folks and sorry, no new AI for Christmas - I'm the wrong side of the Irish Sea and don't have any tools to do them. ;)

I was hoping to get another Mustang field out before we left, but it didn't happen... Got two (three if you include Peterhead) on the "very nearly done" pile, so hopefully early next year.

Have a good one! :)

Thanks Ian, have a good Christmas.
The T6 at Raydon was just a suggestion and not a "Must have by Christmas".
:)
(A2A's new Lancaster on the other hand definitely is a must-have-by-Christmas, even though it's purely in my imagination)

Thanks.

The big problem with a Texan at Raydon is that I'm not entirely sure what to do with it! It would be a Squadron or Group Hack or runabout, being an operational station, so there's not a huge amount it would do, other than sit around for most of the time the occasionally buzz around to neighbouring airfields or higher-up formation headquarters.

I also know that some bomber units used fighters such as P-47s for Hacks, which seems a little odd to me as you couldn't carry anyone else in one, but hey, who am I to second guess what people could get their hands on? ;)

Cheers,

Ian P.

From what I hear Squad hacks where often up and down like yo'yo's being the joyrides for another with wings on there shoulders lol. I know the old local used a hack and dingyto play a game in which the objective was to drop the digy into the hanger on a fly past lol

But you can't do that in FSX AI... Tell you what, get Scott to create code that drops dinghys into hangars from AI aircraft and I'll put them into the sim.
