"Excellent landing" in the Connie streak has ended

Post by DatDudeMIC »

So long story short for the past 7 flights in the Connie I've always had an excellent landing, until tonight. I flew from KBZN to KHQM. I'm so used to full flaps on landing. Well, I landed on runway 6. Wind was 049 @ 16. Wasn't watching my airspeed until I got over the threshold going into the flare. She slowed down too much and slammed on to the runway. Passengers were not happy. So long short, never land with full flaps when you have that much of a headwind.

Most of you probably know that already. Just wanted to share my mistake.

Negative. Full flaps is normal, you probably stalled at the end. Gotta monitor that airspeed!

Full flaps in a headwind, never heard of a such thing. I must be flying GA too much. Thanks for the clarification

Yes, speed management is the utmost importance and what you want to keep on top off. Better to always be too fast than too slow.
