I actually started a little earlier with v3 when it was still done by sublogic.

I started with MSFS 3.3 as well as Sublogic ATP. We've come quite a bit from there.

Re: Interesting History of Flight Sim.
My first “flight simulator†was not a computer programme because home computers had not yet been invented. I had a book about military flying with a full-page photo of an AT-6 instrument panel. I re-drew it larger on cardboard and taped it to my desk in my bedroom. I would sit at my desk with a cut-down broom handle on the floor for a control stick and fly that panel for hours. All sound, aircraft and instrument movement, shakes, vibrations and all scenery was solely in my imagination.
Many years later friend of mine had an Apple II with the Sublogic 6502 based flight sim installed. It looks primitive to us today, but it did move (sort of) and was actually quite challenging to fly as we had only the keyboard for a controller. I recall how difficult it was to take-off, fly a simple circuit and land. Thinking back, I believe that my crude, blown-up drawing of that AT-6 panel was actually more satisfying. Such is the power and value of imagination.

Anybody else remember this little doozy?

"Flight Path 737" was actually my first taste of a computer-based flight game, on the Commodore 16 I believe, so without the fancy graphics shown above. Never did manage to land the bloody thing and after a couple of afternoons trying with my dad I lost interest and went back to more appropriate activities for my age (I'd have been about eight or nine at the time) such as playing with Lego and cruising on the Grifter.
In fact, I was so scarred by the experience, it didn't really get back into flight sims until FS5.1 on a 486 PC.
Cheers,
Nick

My first experience flying "heavies"! This is from the early '80s. This is a 747 simulator that I received with my first PC.

Very cool and yes it takes me back many years. It is hard to believe we have come so far with our hobby. I use to fly Combat Flight Sim 1, 2, & 3 as well. CFS 2 was my favorite.

Re: Interesting History of Flight Sim.
I have hundreds of hours in CFS2. I knew every inch of the area covered in the sim. I did a lot of free flight just exploring the islands. I mostly flew the Corsair..Great fun and the beginning of realistic scenery and aircraft in my opinion.cflord wrote:Very cool and yes it takes me back many years.
