P3D v4 un-docked 2D windows = FPS drop

Post by WB_FlashOver »

I started a thread at Prepar3D but I know there are some smart folks here so will post here too.

Undocking 2D windows causes big FPS drop. Have any of you experienced something like this in your Lockheed install.

I removed the A2A Constellation, FSUIPC5 and LINDA from the mix and the issue is still here. I strongly believe it has to do with undocking windows. The more windows I undock the worse the FPS. However, if I move at least one undocked window to second monitor and make that the focused window then the FPS comes right back to a solid 35 (NOTE, this does not work on primary monitor, i.e. FPS stays reduced no matter the focused window). As soon as I change focus to cockpit window the FPS drops again.

I'm sure it's something basic but it has me baffled. :?:

A little info:
P3D v4.0.28.21686 Academic
Simconnect v4.0.0.0
System Specs
--i7 5930K @ 4.5GHz (overclock is from applying XMP in BIOS)
--EVGA 980Ti SC 6GB (stock clocks)
--G.Skill 3000Hz 16GB
--Win 10 Pro 64bit (v1607)
--Latest Nvidia drivers (v384.76)
--27" Acer 2K 144Hz, 1ms, G-Sync (primary)
--24" Acer 1920x1080 60Hz (secondary)

Installed add-ons
--FSUIPC5 (latest)
--LINDA (latest)
--A2A L049 Constellation
--NO Nvidia Inspector tweaks
--NO configuration file tweaks

Personal Adjustments tried
--Just playing with graphic, lighting, scenery, etc inside P3D. No changes made in settings had an effect on the trouble.

Thanks again
Roger

Hello Roger.

If there is a simple solution I too would love to here it, because I've had the same problem with UN-docked windows for some time. That's in v2,3 and now 4. Frames drop to single figures in my case. Very annoying and makes the whole UN-docked window feature useless for me.

Fortunately, third party software like ASP4, Plan-G and the like don't cause this problem.

Hey Steve, I have been working with Kayla over at the P3D forums on this. I've done a lot of testing and tweaking but sill no joy. I find it hard to believe that this issue is limited to only two systems but it also sounds like it might be fixable if it is that rare. Check in on the thread over at P3D and maybe offer your ideas.

Hello Roger.

Basically, I found the problem with my set-up and everything is now working fine with UN-docked 2D windows. I posted my solution over on the thread you started with Kayla but in short, disabling SLI and using default values in NCP sorted it. To fix it for SLI, I had to tweak a couple of settings. As I said, you can read a more detailed account over in your other thread. If it helps in any way let us know.

Thanks so much Steve, I replied to your post with a big heartfelt thanks over yonder on the P3D forums. More details as to how I got mine working properly are posted there. Short answer is that with a single GPU I do not have SLI options in NCP but with other tweaks was able to find a solution.

Thanks again 8)

I had forgotten about this thread. It took some doing but after positive and negative results trying many 'fixes' it turns out the fix is an easy one. I have heard of doing this for years but never gave it much credence.
Poppet over at AVSIM has put together a nice thread for P3D on how to clear shaders. I forgot to re-post that the issue is fixed. Here is the thread on how and when to clear your Shaders by Poppet.

Cheers

Just going to bump this because shader clearing can help in all manner of ways and is always worth trying to keep in mind for that new sim refresh look

And of course, with a new PC this problem came back. Fortunately previous experience led to a fairly quick solution.
