Top Gun II

Post by Taka taka »

Tom Cruise has confirmed the movie is being made.

I am torn.

Love airplane movies. But I tend to pick them apart.

And then I really don't need another greasy volleyball game.

He has to be playing the old hand instructor - Skerritt's roles in number one.

And no more F-14's that are flying, except in Iran. Probably be using the F/A-18. And I understand about "Picking them apart". I was in a Tomcat Squadron. Can give you 15-20 things wrong in the first 15 minutes.

I've never been to the Indian Ocean... But I find it hard to believe there's mountains there.

Cgi has changed greatly since the first one came out. There could be some great dog fight scenes.

Part of the attraction of the first one was it was all real aircraft and carriers. I can't see the navy paying for a two hour recruitment film again this time round which means it will have to be CGI.
I know CGI is good but they never seem to get movement and turning quite right and knowing they aren't real aircraft will take something away from it.

I'll watch it though as I love the first film even though I know the shortcomings of it. It was utterly bonkers but as a kid in the 80s I was obsessed with all things aviation and what was more rock star that a tomcat cat launch and that soundtrack! :)

Hey the Top Gun soundtrack is awesome! I love listening to it from beginning to end. I am sure with the current trend of remakes of series this one might not be to great. I am pretty certain they would use the F-35 for this film to try and get it some good publicity for a change. For me nothing has the iconic look or presence of the F-14 anymore in the Navy. The new jets just seem to lack something the old planes had, and really not sure what.

It will. And F-18s wall to wall. Two good reasons to stay at home.

Yeah - I know the feeling - don't get me started on "The Hunt For Red October" although I knew a few of the extras and the diving officer on the Dallas...

That said - can't stand Tom Cruise or seeing him in a military uniform... Huge fan of Tomcats though..

Scott

Working in videos in this market, I can't express to you how tired I was of seeing jet videos to that crappy Topgun music. It became a trope in and of itself. Every time I hear "Danger Zone" I start losing my damn mind.

I'll go see it on the day it comes out. Friday morning, first showing, at the Galaxy 12 in Monroe, WA. Medium buttered popcorn. Oh, retired life is so rough... Then I'll take the kid and the grandkid and the captive grandma to see it at some point soon afterward. I figure the aircraft will be Super Bugs. OK, gotta go for the F-14 ACM fix:

If it wasn't for Top Gun I never would have even heard of Kenny Loggins. My favorite song off the whole sound track though is Mighty Wings by Cheap Trick. Think a close second is You've Lost That Loving Feeling! I think I might have to pop the movie in this weekend. Has been quite a few years since I've watched it. I should have taken F-14 orders when I had the chance out of A-school before they were retired. Probably one of the biggest regrets I have is not taking those orders.

Kilmer won't even fit in a cockpit these days and they'd have to plug the oxygen into his neck.
