Anyone going to Duxford next weekend?
I intended to go this year but let too much time pass before organizing it. When I looked at the ways of getting there 2-3 weeks ago, I found it unexpectedly hard to find flights to get there from a tiny but close country as Belgium, so it'll be for September (not sure it's as interesting). Or next year, perhaps it's possible to fly over there directly, but I don't think Duxford's a customs airport so it must be restricted to UK citizens, UK not being in Shengen.
In any case, I'm interested if anyone has good advice on what's the most interesting parts of the show, which pass is recommended, which hotels (though there seem to be plenty of reasonable choice around), ...
And to those who are going, have fun!

Re: Duxford Air Festival
The line-up for the May show wasn't THAT appealing (to me), although the weather is set to be perfect!
Last year we did Flying Legends, and as usual, it was amazing! We ALSO did the September air show (1st time for us), and personally, I thought it was as good (if not better) than Legends!
The massed Spitfire take offs and dogfights made me quite emotional. There was a professional aircraft photographer standing right next to me, and at one point she just put her camera down and said "you just cant do THIS credit with a photograph". She was quite right of course! The sky was just littered with Spitfires, and it truly was something to behold!
The weather is something that can make or break a show like that, and unfortunately the option to buy tickets on the day no longer exists. As we saw last year, the Saturday could be a total washout, whilst the Sunday could be cloudless blue skies and sunshine all day. Luckily, we had already punted for the Sunday!
We hope to attend Flying Legends as well as the September airshow this year, and my gut feeling is that Septembers offering will be even more spectacular than last years!

Re: Duxford Air Festival
I really wanted to go this weekend but I was knocked of my motorcycle on Wednesday.
I'm currently sitting at home with a broken foot feeling sorry for myself
Oh well at least I'v still got P3Dv4 to look forward to.

Interesting to see there is a Norseman at Duxford. I've never seen one before, on the ground, or in the air. I think there will be 14 plus Spitfires at the September show, so despite the fantastic weather, I'll resist all temptation and wait until then! The Breitling Wingwalkers Maybe I'll have another cold beer and think about it .

Re: Duxford Air Festival
Mike, that's a very interesting list, particularly the Sea Vixen, Norseman, Comet, Bronco and Mig-15. I saw B-17 'Sally B' today, taking off from Cambridge airport, where she often refuels, and heading over to Duxford. She looked gorgeous in the clear blue heavens. Unfortunately, I can't make it this weekend.
Re: Duxford Air Festival
Looks like the Sea Vixen has come to grief returning home from Duxford today. Bellied in at Yeovilton.

Re: Duxford Air Festival
Yes I woke up to the Vixen news and pics on my facebook feed for the morning. Rubbish news, but everyone safe and sound and looks like the tanks help take a lot of the damage.
thanks
