Sometimes I wish the 182 would do more then 145kts at 12,000 I'm about to speed it up and make it slicker with gap seals on all the control surfaces

Who doesn't wish his or her airplane would be faster Let is know what your test with the gap seals reveals. Would be interesting to know how much speed-gain they'll bring

The gap seals after my testing last night resulted in a 5 knot increase that was with two 170 pound guys in the front and 100 pounds of cargo


without gap seals: 145kts True

with Gap Seals: 150kts true

now keep in mind I was at full throttle 2400 rpm 13.4gph at 12,000

When I did my analytical aerodynamic calculations at uni, we actually had a drag correction factor for minimum drag coefficient which factored in a 4% decrease in minimum drag when you have sealed control surface gaps vs unsealed gaps. But other stuff like wheel fairings and such are quite controversial...

5kts is not bad at all. I'll have to give that a try too.

Isn't that a tad fast for a Skylane - owners seem to quote about 135 True ?

No that is about right for the restart 182's. I get 145 all the time at 23 square.

With no wheel pants I get 135 but I like wheel pants it makes it look better

Yep the 182 looks a lot better with the wheel pants on now the 172 I typically fly it with the wheel pants off
