Monitor response time

Post by dvm »

I just recently purchased a Samsung monitor for my FSX rig with a 1ms response time. Before I started using this monitor I always noticed a slight stutter or lag when I was at low altitude looking out to the left or right. It was not noticeable when looking straight ahead. With this new monitor this problem does not exist. The monitor is the only change to my system. I have heard a slow response time causing smearing which I am not sure is an accurate description of my previous issue. As I said more of slight lag or stutter. I suspected my Track IR at one time but since this problem has vanished with my new monitor I can assume that it was not the culprit. I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience and does anyone out there smarter than me have any technical explanation for this improvement. At any rate I am happy with my new monitor and its smooth display of the scenery.

Hello dvm, I too upgraded about a year ago to a new monitor. I purchased a 1ms 144hz 2K monitor with G-Sync. Things are much smoother now. I really noticed a change in my Call of Duty game play. I did not realize I the lag of movement and game play in general until it was not there.

Roger,

Thanks for the reply as it confirms my suspicions that the the slower response time of my old monitor was the culprit.

It could also be refresh rate, has that changed with your new bit of kit?

thanks,

I'm with Lewis, more likely the issue is the refresh rate.

The refresh rate is the same as my old monitor (60HZ). The only change as I stated is the new monitor. The resolution is set at the same as the old monitor. This is not a huge display only 27" Samsung my old display was 23.5 Viewsonic. I can't think of anything else that is different. It definitely is smoother.

Not sure what you mean by refresh rate panel. The refresh rate is set at 60HZ which is the default rate. I am using the optimum 1920x1080 at 60hz from the specs. The model is a Samsung S27E310H.

I did a little research and am better informed on the subject of response time and refresh rate as Lewis and AKAR suggested would be the best bet to consider for improved smoothness. Since the refresh rate is the same not sure what is going on but the why isn't rely that important. As they say "never look a gift horse in the mouth". :D
