Gentleman Aviator

Post by cflord »

What aviator struggled with mental illness during the latter stages of his life. He was reportedly horrified at seeing airplanes used as killing machines in World War I, and following several years of sanitarium visits, he committed suicide in 1932. Who was he?

He used to take his airship to fly from his Paris apartment to Maxim's rue Royale.
When invited friends at home, dinner was served on a 6" feet high table. The guests climbed a ladder to reach the chairs.
An outstanding figure of his time.
